Let me put it this way. If in game 5, the 6th inning comes and the Astros are winning 5-3; but McHugh is gassed, Does Hinch go back to the usual suspects (Harris/Perez/Sipp) or does he go to Fiers? If he goes to Fiers, is there any excuse for not going to Fiers in game 2 or 4?
What a ****ing gut punch today. Went from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, all in a matter of half an inning. Im pretty sure its been discussed throughout the board, but this was on hinch, leaving harris in on zobrist, when sipp was ready to go. MMP was a nightclub so ready to pop bottles in the 7th and then became sunday church service in the 8th. Disgusted, dejected and pissed off beyond belief. On the bright side, Club Astros only likes to trash opponent's locker rooms: Arizona, New York and now KC. Go Stros.
He isn't coming back next season, is bitter he isn't on the roster and I am sure he feels he wouldn't have given up 7 runs in 2 innings. Truth be told, had he been on the roster he probably would have pitched today. He hasn't been very good this year but he isn't the only one.
Man! There's a good chance that the remaining four teams are Astros, Blue Jays, Cubs, and Mets. When was the last time any of them won the world series? Pretty awesome for MLB.
Probably Fiers, because Harris and Perez have struggled the last few days. Sipp/Gregerson probably get the 8th and 9th - maybe more depending on their availability (they've been used a lot recently). Yes, because Harris and Perez hadn't struggled yet, had been pitching well recently, and are ideally more suited for that role. He'd only be going to Fiers because his better options failed a few times. Perez, in particular, is used specifically because he's supposed to dominate lefties. Fiers doesn't make sense as an alternative to him.
So is it going to be Cueto going game 5? I will say, except for 2 innings in the entire series, the Astros have dominated the Royals this ALDS. They have won already once in KC, and McHugh has got the swagger this team needs to bounce back. Overall I like our odds. Have faith, friends.
I'm sure they were, any sane group of athletes would have been after a collapse like that. But they had to know a team this good wasn't going to go down without a fight. Wednesday is a new game, stakes are high, but they can answer.
This is why I want this team to win it all. They are a bunch of goofballs, a band of brothers that play for each other. If they lose game 5, it is going to be up there as one of the worst moments in Houston sports history.
we need bullpen help this offseason along with someone who can actually play 3rd base. promote aj reed, put carter as the DH and you'll be looking at a decent lineup.
Regardless of what happens, this season has still been a magical ride. Don't let this one game ruin what has been *hopefully* the start of something special down here. One move I would consider making if I were Hinch is starting Tucker instead of Gattis at DH. Gattis has been up with RISP constantly this series with nothing to show for it.
Today was pretty bad outcome wise but have to think. One win from being in the alcs from a team noone expected anything, I'll take it.
That hurt, bad, one of the all time nut punches. But we're still just one win from advancing, the sky hasn't fallen. We can do this.
