Obviously the situations are different, but Bags was still great early in the Oswalt/Berkman era, while Biggio was more just a servicable/average type (though his numbers would look better today than they did back then).
Ditto McCullers. It's like everyone forgot about him. Ditto to your 2002 start-date self finally posting a post
If you rewound, you would have said we had an amazing core in the '91-'92 timeframe. Biggio and Bagwell, yes. But Finley, Luis G, Cammy, Kile, Harnisch, Portugal...and then the free agents came with Drabek and Swindell, trying to add vets to the young guys. Eric Anthony had a lot of promise back then too It's a little too much revisionist history to say we didn't have a core with Bagwell and Biggio just because those other pieces either didn't pan out or were traded away before more success came with the 2nd wave.
That's not what he's saying; he's saying Berkman/Oswalt were not part of Bagwell/Biggio's core, which is true. There were 8-9 years between Bagwell's rookie year and Berkman/Oswalt's rookie years.
KB was my favorite player too. I ran into him along with his wife and first child, I want to say around 1986. I asked him for his autograph, he obliged, but took it a step further. He bought me a BBQ sandwich and rode one ride with me. Being a kid and a huge Astros fan, it was a very cool moment.
Lol. I didn't even notice I been here this long. Guys here get too much into a pissing contest so I usually stay on the sideline.
That sounds amazing. What a great dude. My favorite Kevin Bass memory was when my brothers and I literally smuggled a radio into our bedroom so we could listen to the game one night, only to hear Kevin Bass hit a grand slam. We were going crazy, and obviously, got busted. Parents were cool about it though, and we didn't get into too much trouble.
That's awesome. I got to tutor his nephew, which meant I got to meet him and his wife at their (awesome) house--post Astros career. Really nice people
I grew up during the time Glen Davis was our big bopper. Around 1989/90 I think. Back then he would hit about 30 HR a year and the next guy close hit maybe like 12 HR. Way different astros team then. They were not very good but for some reason I got hooked on Astros baseball during this time. Every day I would either watch the game on TV if it was a Road game or listen to it on the radio. I remember my ritual would be to organize baseball cards while listening to the game.
