So I was looking through old Oilers records and apparently their best season, in 1993, they actually started out 1-4, with the fourth loss coming against Buffalo 35-7, but ended up winning out every other game and end up 12-4. Who knows, in terms of the regular season, maybe history will repeat itself. Hopefully not the playoffs. But at the very least, just for one more week, the season ain't over yet. One step at a time. We can still win the division!
This x10000000 We can't compete or even make some noise without having a legit qb. This year's situation is way worse than last year's
Those were some cursed years as an Oiler fan .. that buffalo choke was the beginning of the end and that win streak was just a tease leading up to another heartbreaking choke against kansas city
The following year in '94 they had the WORST record in the league, and got the top pick (Steve McNair) THAT Oiler team is really closer to what this CURRENT Texans team is. After having a good season, the next year they regressed. Or Texans SHOULD be that team, since McNair RIP would later lead them to the Super Bowl (in a Titans uniform). And Texans don't seem to have a "Gary Brown" emerging to spark a surge. Much like we knew Cody Carlson wasnt gonna be the guy then, we know Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett wont be taking Texans anywhere.
But would you be happy with a QB of McNair’s caliber with whatever top-10 pick we should have? For all the hype and SB appearance his career felt decidedly mediocre. Also I still remember back when the Oilers drafted him, his nickname was “Air” McNair. And then proceed to have a career mainly through being a great runner. Always thought that would’ve been joked to death in today’s twitter age.
At least we haven't had a high draft pick kill someone in a drunken car wreck and blow his brains out on the side of the 610
To me, Texans still need to draft a QB for need even if its just undeserving QB prospects out there. Thats how dire the situation is. I'd be happy of a McNair caliber QB. He did WIN MVP of league 1 year. I'll take medicore QB Super Bowls Kaepernicking Eli Manning Flacco'ing it there. Lets not discount the fan factor, the kinda guys Texans fans "get behind". Even with passing limitations, McNair had the intangibles Texans fans like: LEADERSHIP, Tough, Competitive not afraid, Fast/Athletic, Size, STRONG arm, MOBILE keeps plays alive Its just extremely difficult to get a Peyton/Brady/Rodgers QB, 29 Teams could use those guys over what they have. But a McNair QB at #10 might have value over any other player #10 IMO. Really I don't know who a next Steve McNair would be. Hackenburg might still be a high pick even though his performance has slipped. For the talk of how McNair's career underwhelmed, and the need for a GOOD QB, there isn't confidence the next draft class even has a McNair quality QB.
