Meh if UH gets accepted into the Big XII (like many think), the gap between the programs close really quick. Especially with the local talent in Houston. There are also other coaches out there competing for those select jobs as well.

I hope he stays but if he doesn't you just go out and find the next up and comer. That's what we have been doing minus the Levine debacle for the past decade.

No way he stays ten years. And if he does stay ten years it only means the Cougars are a mediocre team year after year. You don't want that.

If Herman has great success, then he leaves for sure. If he can't build a consistent winner, then he gets fired.

If you think about, UH is the perfect stepping stone job for a coach. And that's not an insult, it's just the truth. UH is in a great location for recruiting. Even if you only get the players A&M and the Longhorns don't want, there are still plenty of quality three star recruits still available. Any up and coming coach would like that. UH is in a conference that should be easy to dominate if the team is any good. Bowl appearances and a top 25 ranking shouldn't be too hard to pull off. The coach will get recognition for doing a good job. UH is just in that perfect sweet spot for coaches wanting to go places.

This is all good for UH. Nothing wrong with being an attractive location for top coaching talent. The more success the Coogs have with their temporary coaches, the better the chance the Coogs have to getting in the Big 12. UH has proven it can go out and find great coaches. If Herman does well at UH and leaves, he can be replaced with the next great coach.

There are many schools out there that are not a great spot to land for a coach. UH is not one of those schools. That's a good thing.

If the cougars go undefeated....and manage to get into the playoff.......or atleast the big 6 bowls, the Big 12 will have to start looking at them.....Seriously for addition. Especially, if the big 12 get shut out of the playoff...........again.

never going to happen. There will never be 5 Texas teams in the big 12. A regional conference will not make the conference better.

A UT win against OU should settle the Herman to UT rumors at least for this year.

Also, looks like enough programs might have lost for UH to move into the Top25 this week. USC probably falls out. Georgia probably falls out. Oregon was 26 and they lost. Cal probably falls out if they lose tonight as well. That would be enough to put UH at 24 or 25.

Because without A&M in the conference, there is no school in the largest city in State......soon to be the 3rd largest in the Country (5-10 years). Most of the city couldn't give a **** about UT (i don't care how many alumni are here). And before you say no one in Houston cares about the Cougars, put them in a bigger conference......watch the interest skyrocket.

UT doesn't have the power it once did in the Big 12......If the Big 12 expands to 12, it makes sense that the UH of is one of the schools.

Are there any other potential conferences for UH besides Big XII?

Responding to the bolded parts, why can't the Coogs have success with Herman and earn an invite to the Big 12? If that happens, Herman could easily stick around.

I agree, that could happen, and that would be great. I really don't know what the Big 12 wants to do these days. You hear different things about them possibly wanting to add teams. I do know this though. If the Coogs can field a really good team year after year, sell out the stadium, and get some national attention. Then, I think they are much more attractive to the Big 12. I think that's why the Big12 added TCU. Starting in 2000, TCU built a team that was consistently in the national rankings. TCU wasn't in a power conference, but they got a lot of national attention. When it came time for the Big 12 to select a new member, TCU was seen as a powerful football team in a large market.

Yes, I think UH can maybe do what TCU did, and get an invite to the Big 12 by being a strong team in a large market. Adding UH doesn't really expand the Big 12 market like some may want. But if UH becomes a powerhouse in football, they may still be the best option for the Big 12. The problem right now is that the Coogs do not have a record of success in recent years. They've finished the season as a ranked team only one time in the past twenty five years. The Coogs need to string together four or five years in a row as a ranked team to really get peoples attention. If the Cougars and Herman start winning like that, I would expect Herman to be a hot commodity. He may not be here by the time the Big 12 decides they want to include UH.

UH just needs to keep winning regardless of who the coach is. Gary Patterson stuck with TCU and it paid off. Maybe Herman will do the same at UH.

There's been rumors that if we meet certain attendance requirements in basketball and football PAC 12 would invite.

We'd have to really work on our basketball attendance. The stands are always pretty empty for those games.

Not what I am hearing from administrators. OU also is pushing hard for UH and possibly one more team. PAC also has expressed some interest.

Basketball always seem to follow up a big win by losing to a bad team. Also Hoffeinz is a dump, 100 times worse than Robertson was. I hate going there.

I thought Oklahoma and the other big 12 "north" schools wanted UH so they can play in Houston.

I've been holding on to this, but if the big 12 wants to expand, go get Houston, along with Clemson, Georgia Tech, and Florida state. You get Florida/north Florida, the Atlanta Market, and Clemson is halfway between Atlanta and Charlotte.

It also gives West Virginia some close neighbors.

    Just spit balling. Bored.
