That's one of the things I actually lament is that there's obviously no chance for an all-Texas World Series.
Yes. I miss rivalries with the Scrubs, and Cardinals, and the Brewers to a point, big time. So far besides the Rangers, I really don't feel the same way I felt against those teams when they were in the NL.
This is the first time that I can remember both teams being competitive in the same year since interleague play started.
I hate the DH, never wanted to come to the AL, and most of all I hate the way we were forced into it by that D-bag Selig. Having said that my Astros experience hasn't been diminished in any way, I never felt any real rivalry in the NL besides the Cardinals. And as I expected, once the team started winning the fans would be back in force, regardless of how much they tried to pin their indifference on the move to the AL.
my only beef was the strong arming by another d named bud. in a way we still play NL ball, are 6-9 sometimes resembles a pitcher at bat and our manager still gets to experiment with pinch hitters/runners, a billion pitching changes. the only thing that sucks are those westcoast games. those west coast teams should be strong armed to push the game an hour back.
Selig was merely doing what the other owners wanted... namely the guys in charge of the Texas Rangers at the time (Nolan being one of them).
Considering this is only the third season of every day inter-league play and the Astros lost 100+ and 90+ in the first two season of it, it's not that hard to remember.
Originally I was against it, but now I love the DH. I do hate west coast games, esp because I live on East coast and leave for work at 630am most days.
Don't mind it as much until the later innings where you're forced to make robotic bullpen decisions simply due to pinch-hit considerations. Then again, the Astros rarely throw a bullpen pitcher more than one inning anyways, so it probably wouldn't change very much.... I suppose there's decent statistical evidence behind that, otherwise I'd say its usually a waste to have a bullpen guy for a 7th or 8th inning only (when he may only throw 6-8 pitches that appearance).
Doesn't really matter at this point, because we're in the American League. That said if it were up to me I would prefer to be in the Ntl League.
Except that both teams made the playoffs in 1998 and 1999 and the Rangers won 89 games in 2004, so there were at least 3 seasons prior to this year where both teams would be considered competitive.
The move never bothered me, so obviously it's a no I don't miss it I like the DH, never was big on watching pitchers flail away Thing is, as fans we might have hated the Cardinals and Cubs...but neither of those teams would have counted us as their rival Now, we are developing a true rivalry with the Rangers. If we can both make it to the next round especially, and play them in the ALCS, we would have the makings of our first ever true baseball rivalry for the Astros
I miss the national league a lot. A lot of it has to do with me following mainly just the Astros and the national league for 50 years. Younger people who didn't witness all that history I'm sure can accept the Astros being in the American League much easier. Yes, I miss all those national league teams we used to play.
