    300 level or below.

Cushing will never live up to that contract. He's a goner come 2017.

Wilfork wasn't even one of the 3 first rounders I was mentioning, but you're absolutely right.

Texans have a habit of giving out big contracts to players coming off injury. They gave Schaub his extension after his lisfranc injury, having come back in only one regular season game. They gave Cushing a 6 year extension  after he tore his ACL and before he'd come back and played in the regular season. At the time, it made him the highest paid MLB in the NFL.

But Rick Smith has a policy of not negotiating contracts during the season. So you have a situation like Cushing's. He was going into the last year of his rookie deal. If you don't negotiate contracts during the season but you also don't want him to hit the open market, then you have to sign him before the season. And for a player coming off injury, that means signing him before you can see if he's really recovered. Of course, he got injured again and broke his leg and tore his LCL. He's never fully recovered and that contract looks really bad.

Unless you're including LB (Mercilus), then I don't know who the 3rd guys is you're talking about. I give a pass on Clowney being considered DL since he rushes on almost every play and does play DE in Nickel and Dime, but I wouldn't put Mercilus in that category.

Mallett is one of the most immature pro athletes I've ever seen... am I alone in hoping he doesn't start another game for us?

I don't care one way or the other, the season is over and I don't want either Mallett or Hoyer with the team next season.

I only cared when the Texans still had a chance to win the division, they've pissed that away now so it doesn't matter who starts. It looks like they are on their way to a really good draft pick so they might as well use it on a QB this time around....not that I'm high on any of the QB's, there's just no reason not to.

Actually you were pretty high on Mallet as the future but I'm glad we can move on finally.

Crazy what injuries and a decade of "overtraining" will do to your body before you turn 30.

I feel like people underrate Cushing. He's not his old self, by any means, but he's not a piece of trash like some seem to think.

He's not worth his contract, and it was a dumb move to extend him coming off an injury, but he's probably still a slightly above average inside linebacker at this point.

He's not worth what he's being paid though. I think the criticism would be a lot less if he were getting paid like just another guy.
