Don't know. It's a little more disturbing than that, I'm afraid.

I keep feeling like I'm reading the pages of a particularly disturbing chapter in American history.

Nice to see you around these parts Bob.

    Wall street starting to panic?

"Chaos in the U.S. House of Representatives makes an already scary autumn even more uncertain for Wall Street with debt limit and shutdown fights looming and no one clearly in charge."

As the House devolves into mayhem, Wall Street starts to panic

"We will not mince words—this is the political equivalent of a dumpster fire," said Chris Krueger of Guggenheim Securities. "We are increasing our odds from 30 percent to 40 percent for some kind of accident that would keep Congress from raising the debt ceiling in time due to brinkmanship, procrastination, or political gridlock."

The problem with all of that is that they didn't know she was incompetent until they went after her and did the investigation. So saying the goal was to show the world how incompetent she was contradicts itself.

Probably at the very start, where most of the guys' allegiance was more from Continental Congress membership or regional affiliation than Federalist or Republican.

Yeah, no; just crappy vetting and succession planning like in '98, combined with an even more adversarial, embedded and interconnected press. I assume nonsense like this happened all the time between '54 - '94, but we had moon landings, civil rights, southeast Asian quagmires and missile crises to think and read about.

Colbert did a piece (on a variety show)showing him speaking gibberish trying to dance around a political issue. I think the money just saw he was going to be a constant public embarrassment.

Two GOPers have now suggested working with Dems to elect a speaker (Dent, King). They are clearly outside the mainstream, but it's interesting that a few are willing to basically say publicly that they'd prefer working with Dems than the Freedom Caucus.

To them the writing is on the wall. It isn't going to get better than Boehner. It can only get worse. McCarthy's fall has only emboldened the Tea Party to make even larger demands on any future speaker. The Freedom Caucus released a list of requirements it has for the next speaker and they're freaking ridiculous. Highlights include demands to impeach the commissioner of the IRS and stripping the speaker and majority leader of their abilities to determine committee assignments. The only way out of this mess is to marginalize the crazy vote by getting Democrats to vote for a coalition speaker.

On another note, its stupid that the Speaker requires a majority of the House to get elected. It should work like the Senate Majority Leader. The Senate Majority Leader only needs a majority of his or her caucus which allows McConnell to ignore idiots like Ted Cruz and Mike Lee. Imagine if the Senate leadership required 51 votes. You know that Ted Cruz and his ilk would run McConnell out of the building. The original reason for having the speaker get an absolute majority was that political parties like the ones today didnt really exist in the 1700s so at the time it made sense to just require a majority. Today we have organized party caucuses and as such leadership should be based on a majority of the caucus and not the whole body.

But this might be the moment of reckoning that Republicans need to clean their act up.

What about the rumors of his extra-marital "affair"? He got spammed by some conservative nit-wit who threatened to expose him. Meh...

The only thing inhibiting my complete enjoyment of these nutjobs destroying their party is that most of them are in fairly safe gerrymandered districts with equally nutty voters content to re-elect them.

If McCarthy had killed a gay liberal I'm not sure why you think that would bother this group.
