This is the worst we have looked since '05. Even the '13 team was more competitive than this and would have been respectable if not for the Schaub pick-six-fest. I don't necessarily think OB is the problem; I think the problem is that McNair needs to bring in a competent GM and give them control of the roster. Talent acquisition is this teams biggest issue. Too many draft picks have gone to waste and we are reaping in that now. Safety, inside linebacker, outside linebacker, tight end, and receivers have all been a weak spots (outside of Cush, Clowney, and Hopkins) for a couple of years and we have not been able to fill those holes with talent and/or develop any of the guys that we have taken. Look at Seattle. I mean, does anyone think that Pete Carroll is some sort of mastermind? No! They have been excellent at identifying talent and they've had solid, experienced coordinators. If we continue to play like this, I'm canning Rick Smith for an experienced GM, stripping OB of roster control, and firing Crennel (if the defense continues to look like it does).
i think it falls on b.o.b for not investing in q.b. if he is the guru, he could have had derek carr making his first start after sitting behind fitzie for a year. Dallas' talent will look pathetic until they get their pro bowl qb back. if anyone, we can blame schaub for his arm falling off. a qb that can move the offense, while accumulating first downs would make everything look so much better.
Wouldn't make a difference with the defense being this bad. I blame him for bringing in RAC and sending Wade Phillips away. I mean, sure Hoyer inevitably pulled a Hoyer last night and that ended the game, but your defense can't be giving up 27 points to washed up scrubs if you want to be a team that matters.
what happened with romeo though? last season he was moving watt around, now he is pulling a richard smith.
He's never been a very good defensive coordinator, I see last year as a fluke because a huge number of turnovers really saved us.
B'Ob lost me last night. His move to bring back in Hoyer was pathetic. Not because it was the wrong thing to do, but because it showed no confidence in his own ability to make a decision. Once that's out there, you generally lose your team. Worst part was that Mallett was playing damn well and once again had drops/Nuk's boneheadedness/pathetic playcalling to justify his lack of scoring drives early. Point being, he'd made the decision to go back to Hoyer last week but was waiting for any excuse to make the switch to cover up his flip floppy nature. Any excuse. Like getting the wind knocked out of you and needing a play to recover. Is Hoyer the better qb? Probably. Who freaking cares, but you actually have to let one play long enough to actually see. Right now, both look like flaming bags of crap that you keep interchanging. Personally, I would move francis to the two and bring in Vince Young.
I think the only redeeming qualities Bob has at the moment is his character and his willingness to make big changes in order to win. I would like to keep him around, but everyone else needs to go. Can we go to MIT and find some sort of analytical football nut with enough business sense to run the front office? Sure works for the astros and rockets. You could say the offense has a lack of depth, but the defense has very little room for excuses with the amount of investing the team has done on that side of the ball. Changes need to be done this off season before the draft. If they don't change then I guess I'll still make a profit betting against them every game.
Wade Phillips aka "Coach Fixit'? Oh yeah, that'll be answer. You folks act like there's no video on this defense that other teams can study in order to develop a counter-strategy. That's exactly what has happened here and it will be up to Crennel to fix this. Judging from what I saw last night, this defense and its players are sloppy and undisciplined and the blame falls equally on both players and coaches. And you need to change your condescending attitude toward other teams because where I sit, it's the Texans who are look like the scrub team with the 1-4 record.
This is mostly the same guys who won 9 games last year. Hell, over half of the starters on THIS TEAM were either starting or significant contributors on a 12 win team 3 years ago. Outside of QB, the problem is not talent. This is a very poorly coached team.
It's the personnel. It sucks Just like his signing of Mallet and drafting of Nix, BOB has made horrible personnel decisions everywhere
Me pointing out the fact that guys like Andre Johnson, Frank Gore, and Matt Hasselbeck are washed up scrubs isn't condescending, it's pointing out a fact. Wade Phillips is an infinitely superior DC to RAC. He just is. That doesn't mean that he doesn't have flaws, it just means he's infinitely superior to RAC.
Exactly this. Not only that, it's a team that looks like they are not buying in to what the coaching staff is selling. This season is over, and they need to clean house.
QB is not main problem on this team. If they can avoid those stupid penalties, stop someone on the defensive end, then the team would look much better.
Recency bias much? Our QB play has been dog vomit caliber for 75% of the season. It cost us games 1 and 2 outright. The penalties and absolutely braindead schemes/calls fall on the coaches. They suck.
I just want to point out to people talking about how good this team was in past years, this team has had the same fundamental problem on defense since Wade Phillips: teams that would challenge us in the air would beat us. As long as JJo and Kareem have been out there it's been the same problem. Bad safeties and the JJo Kareem tandem have been unable to slow teams that would challenge them in the air for several years now.
Problem is we're getting buttpounded on the ground, so buttpounding us in the air hasn't really been an issue lately.
