Those that support the NRA...why? They're not looking out for you unless you're a criminal. The weak laws on the books right now have stopped over 2 million criminals, drug users, etc from getting guns. Why do you keep saying stricter gun laws wouldn't prevent criminals from getting guns or from these tragedies from happening? If it prevents only a few more, isn't that worth it? It's weird. Fetus? MUST PROTECT! ALL LIFE IS SACRED! Born? PISS OFF AND GIVE US OUR GUNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Interesting article that looks back at 14 recent mass shootings and how each shooter got his gun: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2015/10/03/us/how-mass-shooters-got-their-guns.html?_r=0. I think it's interesting because (1) our background check process is obviously inadequate (6 got their guns wholly legally and 8 got them because of operational failures in the checks), and (2) look how popular assault rifles are with the homicidally insane!
Might have helped to include a citation and/or link. Try this: http://www.governing.com/gov-data/safety-justice/gun-show-firearms-bankground-checks-state-laws-map.html
I'm confused, why is it somone that want to repeal the 2nd amendment is automatically labelled as a loony & crazy? The constitution created a legal framework on how to change, repeal & add new amendments. Just because someone want to repeal the 2nd amendment don't make them a crazy, loony anti-constitution traitor that's dead-set on "shredding the constitution" as you called it.
That's Bobby being loony and crazy. He thinks that even though we live in a democracy, we can't change anything about how we govern ourselves.
Well, because the opinion that the 2nd amendment should be repealed is a loony extremist position. You might as well be supporting repeal of the first amendment, you'll garner about the same fringe support.
"Why is wanting to repeal the 2nd Amendment loony?" "Because wanting to repeal the 2nd Amendment is loony."
Yup, seriously, it should have been self-evident. He might as well have asked "why is advocating that the United States become a theocracy loony?" Then again, if people like that understood how ridiculous they sound, then they'd probably have better opinions.
I don't feel that I need to. There aren't enough anti-2nd amendment extremists to matter. It's obvious enough to most people and that's all that counts.
Or add five words... https://www.washingtonpost.com/opin...a19578-b8fa-11e3-96ae-f2c36d2b1245_story.html
Adding 5 words that completely change the meaning of the amendment is the same as repealing it. Just give it up man, you aren't getting rid of the 2nd amendment or changing what it says. You guys have been trying forever and have never had any success or serious support.
3 out of the fourteen detailed incidents, about 20%. Handguns seem the most popular, as is the case in the general gun crime and general gun ownership populations. Interestingly, whenever specific bans are proposed in the US, the handgun is never what they go after, it is always "assault weapons", which they then go on to define according to ridiculous criteria that have nothing to do with the lethality of the weapons or any increased potential for misuse.
The same thing could have been said of supporters of the 13th amendment as little as 4-5 years before it was passed.
Well keep hope alive. I'm sure those who want Texas to secede and other political crazies like that will do the same as well. There's no chance of removing the individual right to bear and keep arms unless you can get a constitutional amendment passed erasing the 2nd amendment. You might as well be trying to switch the US to a monarchy, you'd have just about the same success. That's factually inaccurate, but let's face it, around here we don't get factually accurate often.
That's political opportunism. I'd love to put a ban on handguns, but that'll never pass. Banning assault rifles is the comparative low-hanging fruit -- though apparently even that one doesn't hang too low.
Let's say you ban assault rifles, what do you do with all of those already out in circulation? You certainly aren't going to go pick them up. Also, the threat of banning them means that every time there's a shooting like this, sales of weapons that are potentially about to be targeted by the anti-gun crowd go through the roof. Really all that is done by this "ban assault weapons" talk is ensure that there are a LOT more of them sold than would otherwise be the case.
i think we all forget about society changes over time. if we could get a peek into what the world looks like 50 years from now in the year 2065 we would ALL be blown away. as far as what this means for people to evolve and what that means for guns in general i dont know.
