This. I'd imagine DMo having to play up to heavy minutes so he'd be coming off the bench regardless. DMo can be this team's 6th man while TJones can be that X-factor. I personally like our 1-2 punch at our PF position.

I wish Jones was as good as his fanbase thought he was, the Rockets probably win the championship last year if that was the case.

Moving forward, if he learns how to play some kind of defense and learns how to shoot, I see him as a competent bench piece that could fetch us a late first rounder or early second rounder at the deadline.

Also the second unit needs playmaking. DMO can provide a little of that with some passes TJ can't.

And the starting unit needs defense and 3 point shooting, Dmo can provide that, Jones can't. Also, it's best to hide Jones on the bench against other team's bench players, it'll make him look a lot better than if he was out there for significant minutes against starters.

Playing Jones off the bench is win-win.

The 2nd unit doesn't need playmaking, it needs people to run alongside Ty, the greyhound, Capela, etc. The greatest advantage our 2nd unit will have is its speed and athleticism. How do people not get that regardless of whether Lawson starts, they'll be staggered to always have one on the court?

If TJones played D and made 3's, then he would garner All-Star Votes and we would be extending him to the max. But, alas, he doesnt, and cant. He is what he is for his career, most likely.

If everyone was healthy, DMo would be wasted as a starter, because the ball will never be dumped into him, where he is at his best. Our first unit needs a garbage man, even if the man is garbage. TJones doesnt need a 3, he needs to play competent defense, and the reason he doesnt is attributed to his awful BBIQ.

Our 2nd unit, which runs the floor, and gets stagnant in a halfcourt set, is WAY more suited to DMo's strengths, which are highlighted by running the floor, and having a brilliant post game.

TJones is not the better player, but he is better suited to be with our other 4 starters. Honestly, do you want the ball in his hands for the full duration of our bench players? I'd want the ball in DMo's. Besides, if everyone is fully healthy, DMo would be playing more minutes, which would be better for our win/loss record.

Health is still key, and TJones will be a rocket the entire season. Quit hating, and quit trolling, its becoming annoying.

DMo wouldn't be "wasted" as starter because he provides the defense and shooting the starters need from PF. The bench needs someone to run and score in transition, and that's one of the only things Jones does well, also his awful defense would be better hid playing against backups primarily.

As a starter, Jones is a liability, as a bench guy, he could be an asset.

The starting unit has Dwight and DMo isn't a great 3point shooter anyway. Just capable in a small sample, and being the second most open shooter in all the league(ignored by defences). He's more of a postup threat.

And why you think that Lawson will be the pg in the second unit and not Bev?

DMo is by far the best 3 point shooting PF on the roster and is one of the better shooting players on the team at any position. So you're just wrong there.

There's absolutely no advantage to starting Jones who isn't a capable scorer more than a few feet from the rim....and he's not even as good at that as DMo is. When you have Dwight, why go with a PF that has no game outside of a few feet from the rim who isn't a competent defender? What advantage is there in that at all?

    3pnt shooting? No.
Have Jones in the starting lineup coz Lawson will like to have a fast pace with lots of steals and transitions.
Put Dmo off the bench to boost playmaking somewhat and give the second unit a reliable offensive weapon.
Mix an dmatch depending on matchups.

Agreed you don't need every position to be elite talent to win a championship. All you need is for everyone to play their roles. When Jones was healthy, he played his role pretty darn good. Hopefully we can stay healthy this season.

Like I said you really need to chill out with all the hate man. I don't see anybody hyping up Jones like that. They're saying he's just important as Dmo. Both of them are Rockets. so how about supporting them both instead of throwing salt. Again Mchale doesn't share your opinion.

Dmo's three point shooting was just as bad 8n the 1st half of the season. His percentage improved after the Allstars break. He is not that much better.

So Jones won't be completely worthless when they are in transition if he was with the starters, but he WOULD be completely worthless with the starters in every other case.

    Defense? Worthless
    Half-court? Worthless
    Transition? Awesome.

    Sign him up.

Suggesting that Jones is just as important as DMo IS hyping him up though. Don't you see that? It would be like suggesting Brewer was just as important as Dwight Howard or whatever.

By "1st half of the season" you mean "first 10 games of the season. Jones is a 30% shooter, DMo is a 37% shooter, that's a HUGE difference. Hell, take out the first 12 games and he was a 40% shooter from 3. There's just no comparison.

What value would Jones have in the half court with the starters? He can't shoot, he's not any good in the post, and he's not a ball handler. He's basically just out there taking up space.

Passing AND rebounding. Don't expect Jones to take shots in half court with so many weapons. His usage should be very low. When you have lawson harden dwight and a good 3+d like ariza, Jones should just rebound, run in transition and pass to find the open man.
The same with DMO in those situations. Depending ofc in matchups.
If we have injuries things change.

His rebounding is only marginally better than DMo's, it's not like he's actually good at it. He effectively makes the starters play 4 against 5 when they are in the halfcourt and when on defense. Sure he'd be nice to have in transition, but I think that would better benefit the bench unit, especially given that his lack of defense won't be as obvious when he's against backups.

The decision is if you want a guy that can actually help the starters in with the starters or if you want a guy that is just taking up space playing with the starters.

my goal is to try to not have a big drop off from starters to bench so that the bench can keep the difference or not give itup atleast. That's why I like DMO with the second unit because he's the better player.
And Jones fits with Lawson better. Anyone knows how is Lawson's entry passes in the post?

I completely disagree, DMo fits with Lawson MUCH better in that he can actually shoot the 3 if Lawson hits him in the corner, Jones can't. Also, if you are Lawson, are you going to Jones, or Howard for the inside stuff? Not a hard choice to make. Jones is just an awful fit with the starters but he'd have a chance to shine with the bench because he'd be playing against a lower level of competition which would be more his speed....even then, if Jones doesn't learn how to shoot or play defense, I could see Harrell jumping him on the depth chart by the end of the year.

Jones simply isn't good enough at enough things.
