Agreed. How dare we be outraged over innocent people being gunned down senselessly by guns when the number of people who die of old age, heart attacks, disease, car accidents, etc. combined is more!

Seriously, I'm not even sure what that perspective is supposed to mean? There are more people who die in the world from the various physical/old age issues than abortions so pro-lifers should get some perspective and stop trying to stop abortions!

Is this what they call cognitive dissonance?

Either you need guns to be safe from getting murdered by gun wielding criminals, or getting murdered in America is extremely rare, and turns out guns are not needed at all.

Yeah, that's a very meaningful infographic.

Since murder only accounts for less than 1% of all deaths, let's just ignore it.

    This is great logic.

Ah, so Barack Obama isn't the all powerful, freedom-snatching dictator today, I see. He must've put on his "incompetent boob" hat on this morning instead.

Does he send out an email to prep the talking points each morning?

But it absolutely does in regards to the majority of violent crime which typically happens much more spontaneously. That's the very basis of it all. Yes the mass shootings get everyone riled up bc of the sheer loss of life in such a short period but I can't figure out how people can sit back and think that making access to the very tools that allow humans to kill other humans so quickly and nondiscrimately won't have a positive overall effect. Getting a gun shouldn't be easier than voting or getting a drivers license.

More importantly, why hasn't anything resulted?

And the answer is: deliberate dip****tery of the type you are currently engaging in.

I say to you the same thing I mentioned last night: This is the society the Right wing has, thanks to the way our broken democratic system works, chosen for the rest of us.

Own your decision, dog. The right made a bargain after Newtown to double down on the Gunited States of America, and they have won.

    Own it.

    Embrace it.

why doesn't he call a constitutional convention to revise, or repeal, the 2nd amendment?

Murder is committed by bad and/or crazy people. Bad and/or crazy people can use any weapon to commit murder. They can use knives, bombs, hammers, axes, vehicles, their bare hands, or just about anything. Maybe we should ban everything that can be used to commit murder? Maybe guns are not the problem but bad and/or crazy people are? If a person is intent on killing someone they will find a way to do it. There were murders before the invention of guns.

I am sure an executive order will suffice.

Or maybe we should restrict the things whose sole purpose is to kill other things. Like we do with bombs.

Nice post, hope it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

Like you said, there's nothing we can do to totally eliminate mass shootings like this. But that doesn't mean we just throw our hands up in the air and give up.

Just closing the gun show loophole on the federal level would make it a lot harder for crazies to get their hands on guns. Off the top of my head, 32 of the 50 states haven't bothered to do so. And if it would stop just one mass shooting, it would be worth it.

But since we know that there are bad and/or crazy people out there. What's wrong with trying to limit the availability of the weapons that make it easiest to kill large numbers of people in a short period of time? It harder to kill a large numbers of people in a short amount of time with bare hands, hammers, or knives as opposed to an assault weapon designed to kill humans.

I have a solution, if we restrict the freedom of speech and the freedom of the press, we can have the country go back to a time where things like this weren't talked about and everyone will feel safer.

Haven't you heard? You could replace a gun with a butter knife and get the same fatal results! Someone should tell all these killers in the world that they could save a bunch of money and just use their mom's butter knife.

We went through this in the last mass shooting thread. Or maybe the one before that, I get them all mixed up.......

Just because you can technically kill someone with a butter-knife doesn't mean a butter-knife is just as dangerous as an AR-15. Come on.

Besides, who is talking about banning all guns? Serious question. Is anyone in this thread suggesting that? And using your slippery slope argument doesn't count.
