I like jones and I like Dmo but neither are the answer at the pf. We been having pf issues since forever. We keep putting these lightweights at Center or pf. **** does not fly. This is a hope thread and people have misinterpreted
It's funny to me that every year some fans on this board were so darn sure Jones would be traded. That never happened but since he's in a contract year now, they are really sure. Lol well no stuff. Y'all might be right this time around.
Hell yeah man. I mean you could walk the NYC subway barefoot as well. It could help prepare your feet for wilderness survival to harden your feet of course.
And you'd round out the trio perfectly. On Vocals & guitar.....Hollic/Jopat On Bass..... Bobbythegreat and on Drums... WILL Now Playing.... the Troll brothers
Players mature all the time. It's real. Some players never get it, but it could happen with Jones. Put it this way, we need Jones to develop a reliable outside shot the same way we need DMo to become a passable rebounder for a 7 footer.
Let us face it unless this team drafts another ADavis they will never build around a PF or have minimal luck to trade for an elite PF.... Bosh was their real chance .....one can hope though
I can sort of understand the backlash against players like Jones and other "potential unrealized" players, but honestly what else can get better for the Rockets? Harden is mostly who he is. Maybe refinement around the edges but for the most part he won't be better. Dwight we're just not hoping for decline. Lawson is a matter of not screwing up off the court. Ariza, Terry, Beverley, Brewer are established vets and they are likely to remain the same. If the Rockets have an X-factor, it can only be one of DMo, Jones, or Capella. DMo has back issues. Capella looked so raw last year you expect more development first. Jones feel like a candidate basically by default. If Jones doesn't break out this year, then we probably are just going to be who we are on paper. Admittedly still very good, but perhaps not quite good enough.
I agree that the mental part is underrated and is the key for Jones who has tremendous physical talent. The principle reason there is hope is that from the beginning he seemed very very shy and lacking in confidence. Sometimes when this is the main issue, this can change very rapidly when the person feels comfortable in their environment.
If Jones plays like in his 2nd regular season and improves his defense a lot, DMo plays at least close to the way he played last season, PF will definitely isn't going to be a problem. You should be more worried about SF situation. How will contract year Treeza gonna perform, is he going to have sub 20% months. His defense is not a problem though. And substitutions at SF aren't that great either, lightweight borderline SF Brewer, unexperienced KJ and Dekker.
Our season hangs on the PF position. The team has championship level players at all other positions, and enough talent overall to contend. But someone still has to play PF. So by necessity an unproven player will have to take on a major role. We are as strong as our weakest link. Whether that player is Jones or Dmo we will see. I've stated my case for Jones, and that's why I think he is key, but it doesn't matter who it is. Whether either of them develop enough this year for the team to contend - that is what the season hangs upon.
wing is mkchale last worries he said plenty of times were deep there, ariza is not in a contract yr he signed a 4yr deal last yr. 3 more yrs left at cheap. PF is shaky because we dont know when dmo will be back and jones can always have a quick injury. He have not on player at PF who has SOLID playoff experience, Dmo hasnt played a sec in playoffs, and howard is always on the floor in playoffs. will they mesh ?? we all forget that dmos run was when howard was out
anyone with insider can post what pelton says? http://espn.go.com/nba/preview2015/insider/story/_/id/13432211/houston-rockets-player-profiles
Now, I will agree with you on this statement. We are championship caliber at the 1 through 3 spots. It's the 4-5 pieces around Dwight that are the key. We've got to get: 1. 3-point shooting at the 4-spot besides Dwight 2. Dominant rebounding from either the backup 5 or a 4 when Dwight goes to the bench. 3. A second dominant paint and rim defender when Dwight has to sit. 4. At least one primary rotation big that can knock down free throws at a 70% or greater clip when Dwight sits. We have to have one big in the 70's because Dwight is such a poor FT shooter. We've got to offset his 47-50% by having a backup big that will bang them down. These 4 points are critical for our success and right now we are lacking unless one of our guys shows substantial improvement. Neither DMo or Terrence are going to be dominant rebounders. Neigher DMo nor Terrence are good enough paint defenders and rim protectors to push our second unit to success....especially in the playoffs. So that means that Capela has really got to come up big for us. (This is why I said Capela is the key to the season.) None of DMo, Terrence, nor Capela have demonstrated the ability to knock down their FTs efficiently enough with Capela and his miserable stroke being a huge problem...especially if he is to work when Dwight sits down. If both Dwight and Capela are down in the 40's at the FT line, then we have a huge Achilles heal because teams, especially playoff teams will waste our offensive possessions parading those 2 guys to the line, and if we have to play without either one then we're going to be hurting in the defensive paint and on the glass. DMo clearly has the best stroke of any of the 4 of these bigs. So, he's the most likely guy to become a key on this team. IF...and it's a huge if based on what I'm seeing already from Capela in training camp....but IF...Capela can become a positive FT shooter (70% or more) and continue his defensive/rebounding development....THEN....we can win a championship. But IF he cannot become a positive FT shooter or he gets exposed defensively THEN....for us to win a championship we're going to have to find another rotation big that can lock down the paint, protect the rim, dominate the glass, and KNOCK DOWN THEIR FREE THROWS!!!! Otherwise we ain't winning a championship. There's no case to be made for Terrence when it comes to shooting the basketball. There's no case to be made for Terrence when it comes to paint defense and rebounding. He simply isn't big enough to dominate in the way we need someone to dominate when Dwight sits down. There is a case to be made for DMo when it comes to shooting the basketball and playing solid D at the 4 alongside a paint defender/rim protector/rebounder like Dwight. There's not case to be made for DMo playing 5 and dominating the defensive glass and protecting the rim when Dwight sits. He's very average in that role. There's a case to be made concerning Capela's defensive/rebounding potential in the middle. But right now there's no case that can be made that Capela won't be an even bigger liability at the FT line than Dwight is. So...the key to this team winning a championship resides in their big man rotation. But...thinking Terrence is going to step forward and become a dominant paint/rim presence while dominating the defensive glass and knocking down his FTs is really not thinking. It's dreaming.
I never said he would do any of those things, nor do I think he has to. When the team's overall talent level is championship caliber, you don't need every position to dominate, least of all your weakest position. You just can't have a huge liability in the lineup, which has been a problem for this team the past 2 years particularly in the playoffs. That doesn't mean we need someone special, there are dozens of decent PFs around the league that could fill that role. But now that the team is hardcapped, one of our own will have to grow into that. Something that I doubted in year 2 and year 3, but now in year 4, I'm hopeful of.
CXbby, I wouldn't listen to him at all for whatever its worth. He's the one that said on the day Clint Capella was drafted by the rockets that he's a pile of poo and that he wouldn't trade DMO for LaMarcus Aldridge lol.
Championship teams have a playing rotation full of plus players, 1-7 or 1-8, depending on how long the rotation is. Terrence hasn't been average for the last 2 post seasons. He's been significantly below average, and arguably the worst (at the very least one of the 4 worst) bigs playing significant minutes in the playoffs. Yes, Terrence is a JAP. That is to say, just another player. And as long as he is just another player there are dozens of "decent" PFs around the league that could fill the role he should have....which is the 9th or 10th guy in the rotation...only there for emergency situations. While you don't think he has to do any of those things.....if he isn't going to do a single one of the things that I listed to a positive level then why should he even be on the roster, much less in the primary 7 man rotation???? That's not how you win championships. Just look at GS's rotation last season. Nothing but plus players 1 through 7. Every player had at least one above average skill that contributed to the team's championship success. You can't name one skill that Terrence has that is above average that will contribute to a championship team's success. His defense, rebounding, and shooting are all below the level of the average PF in the Association. And one of those 3 skills he has to be above average to not hinder this team when he's on court.
