Anyone make the jump out of accounting and into another industry? Would like to hear your experience as I am contemplating the same thing after 10 years.
If you can't switch the field, it may be in your interest to go to a company that does some more exciting things, this will make your everyday job more creative and versatile. For example you could do accounting for the Mexican cartel or a Japanese syndicate. If you want to switch the field instead, I'd recommend accounting assassin or accounting rapper.
Start your own business. Being an entrepreneur is the one job where you're constantly engaged and interested in what you do. No one is micromanaging you, you're your own boss.
Most corporate jobs are boring. I've had accounting roles that had finance and treasury functions. Some desks are more "boring" than others.
You could be an accountant for the police department. I hear its one of the most stable jobs. An accountant for law and order.
I'm sure El Hitman in no longer. There is no job security in that industry. Why do you think I was trying to recruit cranberry sauce.
I'm in the same boat. I think one of my problems is the company I am at (poor management, bad people, etc.). I think those things make a difference. I'm trying to get a different role where I'll be doing accounting, but also finance and treasury type work as well. I think will make it more interesting. People are better as well. You might be stuck in a rut just at your current company, and it could be better elsewhere. But, accounting itself will almost always be boring, depending on what level you're at. What type of accounting are you doing? Cost Accounting, Financial Reporting, AP/AR?
In reality, what the hell kind of job isn't boring? Unless you work for FBI, CIA, professional athlete or some interesting Silicon Valley internet company most jobs in life are boring.
