If both the Astros and Angels both win out, then the Astros win the division because it means Texas loses 4 games.
Actually, I take that back - the Astros and Angels would tie for the division and have a play-in game, but the Astros would either win the WC or Division, so they'd make the playoffs regardless.
I believe if there is a tie for 1st and the loser of the tie breaker makes it in as a wildcard, then there is no Play-In game. Happened to Cardinals/Astros in the early 2000's. Who won the season series between Astros/Angels?
They changed the rules after that season. And the Cardinals still claim to have won the NL Central in 2001.
I don't think we'll have to worry about what happens if the Astros win out. That said, I'm still on board. It ain't over till it's over!
That was when the WC vs division had very little material impact, so it was a waste of time for teams to play the tiebreaker game. With the change to the single-elimination WC game, division vs WC matters a whole lot, so they play a tiebreaker game now.
Now we need to go 4 and 1. Tomorrow is Nuno pitching, not as good as Elias. He struggles with right handed hitters, good game for Stassi and give Castro a rest at least for the first 7 innings.
Yeah, but the Cardinals have no room at their stadium to honor division championships... not with all their NL pennants and world series titles.
Astros priority is making playoffs, not lining up pitchers for playoffs Breaking down the Astros’ playoff scenarios
The Rangers haven't been some runaway juggernaut in September, this has been more about our poor play than their great play. Handle our business and put the pressure back on them, see how they deal with it.
We've certainly opened the door; but they're 16-10 in the month, which is a 100-win pace. And they were on a 10-2 run, with four consecutive wins against us, before this three-game losing streak. Hopefully, they come back down to Earth.
if we win out and the trouts win out, that means the rangers have lost at least 5 games out of their last 7, putting them out of any scenario.
If we would have even played decent baseball in September we would still have a multiple game lead in the division. They are 11-8 against everybody else this month, which is certainly good, but hardly white hot.
Astros win out, Angels win 3 of 4 against the Rangers. Astros guaranteed to win division. Astros win out, Angels and Rangers split could produce a tie for the division.
Depends on what we do the next few games. If we do well, a split helps us make the playoffs one way or another. If we lose the next couple, then we probably want the Rangers to sweep the Angels to help our WC chances.
"If" we would have played decent baseball? Well we didn't, and we can say whatever we want about the Rangers but they kicked our ass this yr going 13-5 against us. At one point winning 12 of 14 gms against us, and EIGHT in a row during gms in Aug/Sept. The one team they needed to play "WHITE HOT" against they did. I freakin hate the Rangers, however I have to give them credit. That said there's still a few games to be played, and let's see how it plays out.
