So why didn't O'Brien like them? So far they have all produced, at least more than Mallet, Hoyer and the guy we took with that pick (xsf) combined. O'Brien isn't doing the scouting so I wonder what the scouts told him.
I find this whole “Well BOB has final say so he should get the blame” to be total BS. BOB is the coach. He’s the one who’s spending all his time prepping for games and upcoming opponents. You know who’s responsible for scouting college games? Checking player backgrounds? Watching tapes of prospects and other NFL FA-to-bes, and see how they can develop on this team? That’s what Rick Smith should be able to do regardless of whether he has the final say. And he has done a terrible job at it.

I think he certainly could be, it's sort of a toss up as neither have shown to be very good. Mallett has the better tools though.
Just an honest answer. When you have two QB's that haven't done anything special what are you supposed to say? I know some are overly thrilled about Teddy's 18 pass attempts last week at the little kid's table, but there's nothing impressive about it. an 18 pass attempt outing is just as worthless to analyze as a 58 pass attempt outing. Both are outliers. Now if the Vikings feel they need to keep the training wheels on Teddy from here on out, it could be a good indication that they don't trust him but I guess we'll just have to see what happens.
Mallet threw the ball 60 times last week... if teddy threw the ball that many times he would have close to 500 yards based on his advanced stats
You don't think Mallet has training wheels? Look at all those checkdowns. Bridgwater at 23 is at least producing something. Mallet at 27 produced one of the worst games in memory. Oh and Mallet still needs time to work on accuracy. Maybe by the time he is 30 he will learn the footwork it takes.
I really don't think it matters how many pass attempts there were. Bridge was 7 of 10 on blitzes. Mallet was 0 for 16 against pressure.
That's not how that works. If he threw the ball that often, given his history there would have almost certainly been at least 2 or 3 picks minimum. Each time you pass the ball, progressively more difficult to pass it as the defense keys in on the passing game. You can't take a game where Bridgewater was sitting at the little kids table throwing the ball 18 times all game long then just scale it up and assume he stays that productive. It's no surprise that when you are only throwing it 30% of the time, it's more effective than when you are throwing the ball over 70% of the time.
LOL, training wheels? For a QB that had to throw the ball 58 times in a single game.....you know, more than your boy has thrown it all season long?
I wasn't saying that he thinks Hoyer was better…but he clearly thought very little of the QBs in 2014 where he figured he would just wait for a couple years to get someone later. Problem is, in football, you never know when you'll get another solid opportunity to get a QB. And a 2nd round pick…you're not making your bed with him. With an early first round pick, then you're committing for a few years. Yes, this would be the only explanation…that OB didn't think any of those guys was worth it. Or, Rick Smith and his scouting team didn't think any of them were worth it. My guess is OB overruled everyone. Either way, that doesn't make it the right decision. We're in a worse QB situation than we were in last season…and there is no telling what opportunities we will have next season. What happens if Goff/Cook are taken in the top 10 picks and the Texans have pick 17? Do we just hope that 2017 will be the year OB likes a QB? The problem with passing on the 2014 guys is that you're risking not having a QB for a few years down the line. At that point, it would have just been worth it to take one, try them out a couple years, and move on if it didn't work out. The Texans could have had Carr or Jimmy G in round 2. And again, you don't have to take someone for the sake of taking them, but when you're presented with a few solid options, then it's not a bad strategy to take the one you think has the tools and the best shot at becoming something. If it was between taking a QB in 2014 or taking one a year later, what happened? Looks like we have to hope he takes one 2 years later, at best. Poor decision. And at what point do you feel that would be a reasonable time frame? If he doesn't draft one high in the 2016 draft, are you cool with waiting for the 2017 draft? That'll be OB's 4th draft. There isn't one person in this forum that thinks that. There isn't one person that thought that. Sure…that's fine…but for how long? If OB doesn't find his guy three years from now, are we still going to say…"we can't criticize OB yet because we still don't know who his guy is going to be". OB has had 2 drafts and hasn't liked anyone. What are the odds that he likes someone in 2016? Unless we have a top 10 pick, then we probably won't end up with one of the top 2 prospects…then we have to hear how OB didn't want to make his bed with anyone else in the draft. Im currently okay with where we're at, but OB has made very questionable decisions, which leaves me with little confidence in him building a team. I like him as a coach, but I think his player evaluation is horrid.
Here you go again, with your TB nonsense…Unfortunately, for you, Bridge has been solid since his rookie season. https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2015/09/23/ranking-the-nfls-top-10-qbs-entering-week-3/
Oh yeah, he's amazing going 37 of 49(75.5%) for 437 yards with 4 TD's and 3 interceptions good for a 103.9 QB rating this season Oh wait, that's not him, that's Tyrod Taylor, Bridgewater is 37 of 50 (74%) for 384 yards with 1 TD and 1 interception good for a 94.1 QB rating this season We should all be jealous of amazing QB's like Tyrod Taylor and Teddy Bridgewater
How has TB not done anything? And if you want to talk pass attempts…TB had 3 games his rookie year where he had 40+ attempts…and they won 2 of them. And you want to know how TB ended his rookie season…look at his last 5 games. 8.8 YPA 103 QB rating 3-2 record No Adrian Peterson How exactly has he done "nothing"? Are these imaginary numbers and stats?
Absolutely not, Tyrod Taylor is an amazing QB with his 75% completion percentage. Every team would be fortunate to have him as their QB wouldn't they? Anyway, we've talked enough about random scrub QB's from other teams and none of it is relevant to the Texans so let's move the discussion to the Teddy Bridgewater circle jerk thread in the NFL forum if you want to continue it.
You never addressed TB's last 5 games of his rookie season…your claim that he's done nothing is hilarious. Funny how when Mallett wets the bed, you go on to drop stats about some Hall of Fame QB who started off slowly… Yet, when it comes to TB, he's done nothing and is trash.
