Thing about the wild card now is that 4 teams are competing for the last spot, so while all of us are .500 teams, and equally crappy, you gotta think one of the 4 is going to make a run and we will need to keep pace.
It just reminds me of all the beat writers who put tweeters on blast all damn season and respond to everything with "Umm, this is a 1st place team you are talking about", and the like. Ok, so once that's no longer the case, then what? If the current snapshot of the standings is all that matters, what's the point of watching and worrying the rest of the way? Don't mean to lash out (though I am in a rather foul mood), but it doesn't really matter that we're hanging onto the 2nd WC by a thread, when we're playing like **** and there are still 9 games to go, none of which should be easy.
21 games in September we have played so far and lost 14. I would say thats a collapse. With Texas coming. Then Seattle at Seattle gonna be tough to even stay in the race. Texas plays Detroit ( who is the worst in their division) Crossing fingers, Saying Hail Mary's Cuttin Chickens, Whatever it takes.. I will be there Friday in the Crawford boxes fo sho.... mb
Another thing: Texas plays in LA to end the season. If they wipe us out, they will lock up the division and have no incentive to win in LA. Could be 3 easy wins for the Angels.
it went from leading the division to at least we have altuve, springer, correa, dallas and lance! the future is looking bright. thanks for the fun games, bullpen. =(
Venting is fine with me, so don't worry about that. I agree with all of this. The team has bullpen issues, strikes out a lot, doesn't hit for average, etc. My point is mainly that we shouldn't give up until the season ends and we are no longer in the playoffs. If I misread your post or another, then I apologize.
still can't believe he couldn't ask luke to work overtime today being such a crucial game. get the only pitcher you can trust to get the heart of their order. 9 games left can't let the freaking bullpen destroy our playoff chances. fix it. it's not too late.
Astros appear to just not be good enough in a number of areas (untrustworthy bullpen, not enough good hitters and a mediocre to bad manager, etc.) These deficiencies over a 162 game season can be a lot to overcome. It sucks because this season feels like a tease but tbh they were just in it because the AL West is not that strong this year. Again, the Astros are just not that good and Luhnow still has work to do to make this a legit contender. Overall, the franchise has still made a good turnaround from being a laughing stock. Hopefully players and front office are learning from this years experience.
If Bo Porter was in over his head, so is AJ Hinch. In fact, Hinch had the benefit of having their top prospect in the big leagues, a bevy of trades and some money spent in FA getting bullpen help and Jed Lowrie. In the second half, Hinch and Porter have virtually the same record.
Agree 100 percent with you. First step, win 81, play .500. Second step, hope for improvement from Hinch. Third, improve the bullpen. Fourth, Look for improvement at 1b, LF and DH. We have Reed, Moran, Kemp, White as future assets, the question is when is the future? Reed as our starting 1b next year? Moran? 2016 or 2017? What are we going to do with Gattis? Is he good enough to be our DH or we can do better with Tucker? When is Appel going to be in our rotation? If next year, that means VV and Feliz will be in the bullpen? Are we going after a 1b in FA? Morneau??? ONe year gap for Reed? Will Singleton be able to hold the job at 1b? There are many interesting question for this off season and strong competition this ST. We have a very good utility player, so, do we need Lowrie? Is he a starting 3b? I don't think he is good enough to be a regular at 3b. Moran next year? Many question. I do trust Luthnow, he has done a great job, but this team still needs a lot of changes to be GOOD, right now we are average. ( And sorry guys, but i have to say, I TOLD YOU SO, for 4 months, i've been saying that, this team is just average.
Kluber being a useless bum gave up 4 in 3 and 2/3 innings. He has been dominating the Twins this year too. SMH!
Tell you the truth, for a long time we've been looking for other teams to lose because we can't win enough games to go to the playoffs. We held our destiny to win the division, we could not do it, and Texas took it. We held our destiny to win the Wild Card, and now Twins, and after tonight, Twins will have same number of loses. If we are not going to win, then let other teams fight for the playoffs because we don't deserve it. We are 7 and 14 in september, we are playing under .500 for the past 3 1/2 months or so, is time for us to fight for the playoffs instead of watching others lose. If we don't go at least 7 and 2 in the next 9, then we don't deserve it.
