This. It's near impossible to do a big trade like this when you're hard capped because trading many (3+) for 1 (which we'd have to do to make the salary match) will put us below the required players and we'd have no additional money to address that issue.

This reaks of an agent trying to create a market for his guy through the media. I'm sure the Lakers and Rockets are "interested" but do you think they are the ones calling Phil daily to get a deal done?

At the end of the day though, if you don't know how the salary cap works now or have been ignorant to the thousand references to Houstons hard cap situation then I don't know what to tell you. You're going to believe what you want.

The Rockets MOST LIKELY have no way of acquiring Melo. Next Summer however.... Who knows. Maybe they are putting together contingencies if they miss out on Durant. That's probably my best guess as to why they are open yo discussing it when there is little possibility right now.

 

Let's be realistic here. Melo wants to be the guy. He won't be the guy here. If he wants to be the guy in LA, cool. But if he wants to take a role as the 2nd option on the offensive end, then we can definitely make something beautiful here. That'll take so much pressure off of Harden, not to mention we're already helping alleviate the ball handling duties (Yes, I said duties) by bringing in Lawson.

As long as Melo doesn't become a black hole on offense, and Harden doesn't become a black hole on offense (regardless of Melo coming or not) in late clock situations, I think we can do great things this season!

The thing about chemistry is you never really know until the team and the players were actually on the court. We can sit here and speculate all we want about the way that certain players would fit on the Rockets team, but we really can't say for sure.

That said, I really cannot fathom any way that Carmelo would be good for this team. I didn't like Carmelo to go alongside Harden when we tried to sign him as a free agent, and I like him even less now that we have Ty Lawson.

If our backcourt was Lawson-Harden-Carmelo, that would be three guys who are great offensive talents!!!.....but it would be three guys who are average or even below average defenders and three guys who like to dominate the ball. I don't think very many people would say that Trevor Ariza is better than Carmelo, but for our team, it seems that his defense and spot up shooting would be the much, much, much, much, much better fit. A Lawson-Harden-Carmelo backcourt might make a good All-Star roster when defense doesn't matter much, but not for trying to win championships.


Also, since we are hard-capped, I am pretty sure that a trade for Carmelo would be just about impossible unless we included Howard or Harden.

 

No. After losing those players and adding Carmelo, we would be around 10 players on our roster. After trying to sign minimum guys to get to the league minimum, we would be over the apron.

Plus, I would rather have those guys than Carmelo anyway.

That starting 5 is rediculous and quite honestly that bench isn't too bad. Just need a couple of vet min guards. I know everyone will say what about fit blah blah blah but ultimately it comes down to talent. Talent trumps fit.

Did the Heat have a problem with ball dominance with their big three? Or the Celtics with their 4?

Guys want to win. And overcoming the GS and Cle juggernauts may require this sort of super team.

 

That poster combined with that statement is one of the most embarrassing or at least should be one of the most embarrassing moments of this franchise.

 

I'll pass. He's a great offensive talent but he would cost too much and I don't think he'd fit in chemistry wise.
