1. "If you don't think a guy that hit 370 in his first season at AAA can't out hit Chris Carter, then I don't know what to tell you." You literally said that. I'm not assuming anything. Am I suppose to assume you meant all that? I don't know whether to assume or not now. 2. Why yes it is. His career avg. .310 far off from .370 you said. His highest BABIP .337 anywhere above rookie ball. I SAID that some people have higher BABIP. Guess what? Look at his career BABIP numbers available on fangraphs. None really stand out above league average (remember BABIP in the minors is higher than the majors and differ from league to league.) BESIDES his stint at AAA (which is .412!) with significant at bats. In AA this year .313 BABIP in the same sample size roughly which is more in line with career numbers. But you choose to believe the AAA numbers. If anything there is not enough data yet for either argument. Look I like the guy and what he can do. He's already beat the odds.
Reading comprehension. Speed does help BABIP. Didn't say all the best BABIP are speedsters. Somebody said Dee gordon and that's where that came in. I even mentioned cabrera the ultimate speedster I guess. I'm just going off what you said. Sorry logic and actually statistics are hard. My point is people wouldn't be talking about white if his avg. wasn't 370 right now.
Got him! Through 5 now. High pitch count is the bad thing, but seems to be pitching well. Anybody able to watch the game?
And people wouldn't be talking about A.J. Reed if he didn't hit .340 with 34 homers. Look, I'm not the guy's cousin or second uncle or anything...just excited to see those kind of #'s and hoping they can translate to the majors. It is exciting to have that kind of potential in the pipeline. And it's nice to see White step up and lead our AAA ballclub to a PCL championship!
Mark Appel: 5.2 IP, 6 H (2-run homer), 3 ER, 2 BB, 10 K He allowed the 2-run shot to the last man he faced. Fresno is up 4-3.
I understand what you're trying to say but I think you/yall are missing my point. White's avg. in AAA is flukeish while Reed's performance may be a bit flukeish too, we don't know yet but I think he answered a lot of questions in AA out of lancaster. Plus he's a second round pick, has the body type, his BABIP has sustained in twice the amount of at bats at 2 different levels, basically checks all the boxes unlike White who again had a .310 BABIP at AA this same year in same at bats. So you can't tell me he's a high BABIP guy based off of his stats this year. Let me be clear too I'm not hating on White, I truly hope he's a great player for someone, hopefully the Astros. If he can become a catcher you have to be even more excited about the guy. My point again, Duffy (the MVP of Fresno) is another guy that has the stats, but nobody seems to be clamoring for him to start or talking about him as much.
Good outing for Appel I'd say. Pitch count got him in trouble. Gave his team a chance to win in a big game, can't ask for more.
Fresno wins the Pacific Coast League Championship with a 7-3 win over Round Rock in the deciding game 5. They'll take on the Columbus Clippers, the International League champions, in the AAA National Championship.
kind of cool. i don't think i even knew that existed. i guess because we haven't been in it since it's inception. it's televised tuesday night on NBCSN. why the hell not
Interesting note, I saw Colin Moran subbed in for Tyler White at 3rd and had an at bat. Didn't realized they had put him on the AAA roster (presumably as a sub for Matt Duffy?). I wonder if AJ Reed will get a similar bump?
