Perception is powerful. That's why statistics and facts should be enlightening. It's a personal choice, continue with perception or see reality. There is a demand on accountability that takes in many forms. Maybe that's driving perception that there is a war on cop.
All news agencies do things like this. Like when NBC selectively edited out the 911 dispatcher asking Zimmerman what race the person he was calling about to make it look like he was racially profiling or their pushing the hands up don't shoot outright lie for so long. That is the problem with our 24 hour a day information society and 24 hour news networks try to do things to keep the viewers tuned in. I do not watch the news very often these days just for these reasons. Note: (I think it was NBC but could be wrong about which network it was but it still doesn't change the fact that it still happened)
The Wilmore/Stewarts of the world lay all of Obama's political problems at the feet of Fox News. Obama would not be unpopular, his party would not be minorities in Congress, his political opposition would not exist, if not for Fox News brainwashing. There can be no other explanation.
I'd love for you to point out a single instance where either of those (or anyone else, for that matter) made these claims. Until you do, I'll believe you made up a straw man, because that's all you have.
2 things are are true about the piece. 1. He did gloss over the "pigs in a blanket" chant. That is true. No doubt about it. 2. So what. It doesn't matter. It doesn't change his analysis at all in any way shape or form. Not only are police fatalities at the lowest point in decades, so are attacks in general. And yet Fox has declared that there is a war on cops. They have repeated it, and have tried to spread that idea. They have done that despite the fact that it is a falsehood and not backed up by the facts. So the analysis from the Nightly Show isn't BS. It's accurate. It's fine to point out that he glossed over the one chant, but it doesn't, in any way, alter the analysis that FOX is spreading a false idea.
I have yet to see an analysis that distinguishes between the loss of life in the "line of duty" and the loss of life in an "ambush attack." We have had a couple of these lately; am I not mistaken in saying that those were pretty much unheard of before all this sabre-rattling from BLM types therefore I'm not so sure that you can jump to the conclusion of it being a false idea. When was the last time that cops have been assasinated? Nothing comes to mind. Is that not a sea-change? I saw people in uniform using the term war on police. It's a very common vernacular in describing social ills and has been for fifty years. You guys act like FOX invented it.
Still not one of the ten most dangerous professions in the U.S. Odd how an alleged war on a profession doesn't even make it one of the ten most dangerous professions in the U.S. #safestwarever
When attacks at police are lower than they have been for decades, then yes FOX news invented with the help of some people that were in uniform. The people in uniform were wrong, and may well have been under the impression that there was a war on cops because the media had made it seem like that. So Police heard it, and then many of the individual incidents that were publicized made it seem like it was true. I believed it was true. That's what it felt like. Now I see the reason why. It's happened in the past with different things like Shark attacks etc. It's a media trick. It isn't reality.
So remember, you can't back track. In the future, if the data point is TWO, then if in the next few months 2 blacks or two muslims are lynched or murdered, then we can say there is a war on blacks or Muslims? We already had one mass shooting of a black church a couple of months back. One more and it's acceptable to say there is a war on black people?
I'm not sure what you are saying here. Are you saying there have been a statistically significant uptick on ambush killing or attack on Cops and thus, the war on cop? If so, link to your source. Or, are you saying the couple you heard of lately (two?) is the enough reasons for you to said there is a war on cop?
You're really struggling for a response to Fox being caught creating and very actively pushing a lie. Your silence on the matter is noted. Keep beating those straw men.
This is following the "If it bleeds, it leads" philosophy. Too often the media, and Fox isn't alone in this, have been making things sound more alarmist than it actually is.
Have you found those stats constructively broken down? I haven't. The overall stats show 133 in 2014 and 92 thus far in 2015. Pro-rate that out to the full 12 months and you exceed 120. I'm not sure that is significantly different. Officers have better training, better equipment, i.e. body armor etc. Do you really think the cops on the street have been taken in by FOX News? The shark experts tell us that the attacks are not up but when the cops do it... suddenly they are gullible? It's not just a matter of raw numbers because the causes of changes in those numbers are numerous. MORE ON SHARKS-- while the numbers might be unchanged, this past summer off the NC coast the attacks were unparalleled. Sharks were seen swimming in shallower water than ever before-- often just a foot or two deep. Do you think that affected swimming habits which, in turn, reduced the number of attacks. Sometimes there are variables at play which profoundly affect the bottom line, so you can't just look at the bottom line and be satisfied.
What are those professions and who might be targeting them? Firefighters. Test pilots. Give us some specifics rather than mock.

Apples and oranges. The danger that police face is people violently resisting them and now even angling for them. These other occupations main foes are the laws of physics. It's just a different deal altogether for police and soldiers (where are they on that list?) because of the dark nature of some people.
The U.S Armed services compromise more than 2 million individuals with HUNDREDS of military occupations. If you narrowed the criteria to direct combat arms, U.S. infantry would shoot to number one depending on whether the U.S. is involved in armed conflict. Yes, there are dozens military occupations that are as safe as being a receptionist or a bank teller.
As information becomes more available to more people, trends that may or may not be actually changing appear top change because the more events are generally known. i.e. shark bites - no one would know how many shark bites may have occurred in North Carolina in 1965, there was no apparatus to record the number and as news it may not have even made the local paper if the Chamber of Commerce asked the paper not to create a panic. Now, since shark bites are eyeball grabbing news and local reporters know they will get attention for the story, the event enters the national consciousness. Snowballed by the increased reporting, it appears the trend has changed to many more shark bites. Trend change or perception change? you will never know. We know there is no historical data base for police killings. (It's really strange to me there isn't but as I understand it there's not) So, if there is an increasing trend or not, we won't ever know, but we have the perception that there is because it's a hot story. We do however have some pretty good data on violence on policemen and the trend is down. You could speculate on the reasons, better communication, better equipment, better training, differing police protocols but, you cannot argue that the trend is 180 degrees from what it is. You can't put up a decorated uniform and have him support his budget by talking out his ass and call it news. News uses the facts available and looks for truth. FAUX uses perception to frame the most reactionary story to create an adrenally addictive reaction in their viewers to keep them hooked and coming back. It's not news and doesn't serve the fourth estate. It's info-drama, event based soap opera. Tune in tomorrow and be really self-righteously outraged! have all your imaginary fears and prejudices confirmed! and, BUY GOLD! It's a shameless excuse and everyone should realize it. It's a whoring out of the news tradition that is required for a functioning democracy.
