Coaching definitely. Playoff coaching is a game of Chess while McHale still plays checkers and "play harder guys" "clap clap"

McHale looked clueless against Kerr who ran circles against him.

I for one think that if we had Beverley in the Golden State series and he was as healthy and tenacious as he can be then we could have taken Golden State in 7 games.

Curry was pretty much the only major advantage they had on us. Luckily for them it was their best playmaker and shooter. Beverley has historically upset Curry.

Honestly this team is good enough to win a ring in a bunch of years, but this year just happens to have extremely top heavy.

    SAS, GSW, OKC, LAC.

We have to be able to beat two of these teams in a series.

    I'm putting rebounding.

Even with Howard on the floor, we were a poor rebounding team. One of the most frustrating things with this team last season was the inability to get the rebound after playing good defense. When we didn't get the rebound, we couldn't push the ball in the break and our offense would stall in the half court far too many times.

Rebounding definitely has to be a team focus this year. It rewards us for playing good defense and feeds into our offense.

Probably right to an extent. The problem is our small forward and power forward spots in rebounding which are pretty significant holes in rebounding. Harden is an above average rebounder for a guard and so is Beverley (purely off his hustle)

Howard has a knack for rebounding. He really needs to dedicate his game to rebounding, contesting shots, pick and roll.

Jones and DMO need to put on the muscle to increase their rebounding.

Ariza never cuts or gets close to the basket due to stretching the floor or guarding the perimeter player in most cases so he's really never seen boarding it up

Just think our coaching is our biggest flaw. To me, McHale lacks the ability to lead us to a championship

a lot to things. Coaching adjustments, role accepting (Lawson-Harden, Howard-it's his contract year) guard defence, Rebounding, depth at center position etc
You can't just see the team on paper you must consider what the other team will do to execute their own game plan and to destroy ours.
I think tho that turnovers, and ariza's three point shooting will go up. And probably by the POs everyone will have settled in their roles.
We are definitely one of the top contenders, but nothing is a given. Even with health. Also a players perfomance may not be the same as last years regardless of health. I.e Howard? will harden have again a mvp caliber season?

Our depth should help with the health in the playoffs.

It's great that we have such an amazing team which has a shot at winning it all since 95' but the things holding us back as demonstrated by everyone's opinions (generally a bit of everything) is what scares me. It is pretty hard to fix a general problem unless it's through coaching but Morey seems to trust McHale with his life.

I guess it's possible for McHale to getting better at coaching every year. It doesn't make it easier that are in the tough Western conference where matchups and injuries play a huge factor.

Has to be turnovers .... When you commit a turnover you don't get a shot .... It has 0% chance to go in and usually results in the opponent getting an easy look / transition bucket.

Dwight was / is a high turnover guy in the post - some of that was eliminated after his discussion with the Big E last season.

Harden has his share of TO's but considering his usage / volume and efficiency you have to take the good with the bad.

There was no secondary ball handler last season forcing guys like Ariza & Terry into those situations , that shouldn't be the case as often this season with Lawson.

If our big guys would have shot their freebies in the 60 percent range, we would have won it all.

Disagree wholeheartedly. You don't go into a game worrying about what the other team will be doing - you're already accepting they're better than you with that mentality.

You go out there forcing the other team adjust to what you do. You dictate what happens.

Health is obviously the biggest factor. It's (to me anyway) the sole reason the Warriors won the Championship last season. They could not have been gifted a more perfect run to the Championship with injuries plaguing each of the opponents who could eliminate them.

Turnovers were a huge problem for us last season because it lead to easy buckets for the opposing team. Having Lawson will improve that drastically. But Harden will also be much more rested on offense so his turnovers will reduce due to his reduced fatigue (as well as his % of handling the rock)

You'd like to think Dwight's post moves aren't going to be as frequent throughout the season as they were last year (but who knows) that in itself will cut down turnovers leading to fast breaks.

I'm not so concerned with our rebounding as some (I'm sure they've been told at some point to let Dwight take care of that and leak out for the break). Dwight holds down the fort, and Capela already looks to be NBA-ready in rebounding and his nose for the ball.

    In short....

    1) health
    ....
2 a lot further down the page) turnovers

    3) McHale. But I've already commented enough about coach in the past.

Whether the pieces fit. On paper we look GOOD, but how does Lawson fit and the change in dynamics with Harden seeing less of the ball.
Oh and the Kardashians is another potential problem.

    You left out:

    weak defense at 2.5 positions
no organized offense on most possessions
    bad shot-clock management
    overreliance on 1 player

That, plus the whimsical coaching, the injury-prone center, the bad FT shooting, the recidivist alcoholic PG ... I could go on, but you get the point. Let's just try to get a decent playoff seed, hope for a little luck, and see what happens.

    1. Harden needs to play more steadily and consistently.
    2. Weak defense
    3. Only 1.5 playmaker last season
    4. Need another tough "Ron Artest"
    5. Coaching improving
    6. Good luck

    Defense is not an option???

Looking back those games vs Mavs, vs Clippers, and vs Warriors, sometimes our defense is good, but sometimes it's too bad.
