If Mallett isn't the answer, there is no issue of being stuck in limbo. Yeah, the season will sick, but if we pick inside the top 15, we should have a shot at either Hackenberg, Goff, or Cook. Any of those three shoulf have decent careers.
Goff and Cook right now are light years ahead of what Savage was coming into the league. One off-season would probably put them firmly ahead of Savage, and I'm on Savage's bandwagon. Goff especially so. The dude has it all. Just needs to gain about 20lbs. Hackenberg is playing with a very talent-less team, but is also doing very poorly himself. Since O'brien has left he has nothing but slid in every statistical value. I mean there are some basic throws that he can't even complete now. It's pretty sad.
Ready for what? To prove he's an average at best NFL QB? Why are people impressed with Savage?? I don't get it.
Why are people impressed with Mallett? It's kind of the same situation. Both are unproven QBs who have strong arms and the prototypical QB build. The main difference is the amount of experience and body of work at the college level (and of course Mallett is older and has backup NFL experience). But the uniting factor is arm talent and hope.
He has an NFL arm…and he has improved quite a bit from his rookie year…that much is obvious just in the short time he's seen the field in the preseason. If he has another year or two of getting better, then I'd be curious to see what he can bring to the table. What did Romo do that was so special? Undrafted…clipboard holder for two years…then he got his shot. You never know what can happen, but Savage has a great arm and he is a different player this year than he was last year. All we can hope for is continued improvement.
Coach had flash backs from our short Fitztragic era. Hoyer didn't pickup the blitz, he was very timid and didn't show no fire after the hearty halftime speech. So instead of wasting 4 games he went with what he wanted to go with in the first place, Mallett. Coach knows our division has a weak schedule, therefore why put your team behind in a hole.
The game last week was a harder opponent. This game is VERY winnable [last week was too but this one more so] I expect the QB position to shine this week . . no matter who in there [except maybe Savage but I doubt that happens ] In fact the next real test is Oct 4th against the Falcons Then the next week against the Colts Maybe this was the plan . . . . let Hoyer stink against a hard team [He cannot say he did not get a shot] then let mallet easy into it against the easy ones . .. *grin* Rocket River
Mallet is infinitely a better QB than Hoyer...really...But even so, he still needs to stop having mental farts..
Well that was bad, but it was his 3rd career start, on the road, no run game, several drops, against at least a solid defense. Still worth giving him the season to see if he can get better. I don't think he will, but it's a much better bet than Hoyer, and Savage is on IR.
