Wasn't the reason already clear -- he wanted to show it to one of his teachers? That doesn't seem particularly out of the ordinary, to me.
Yes, I don't know which one it is. But even if it is the first one - again, he (the father) is certainly using this opportunity to the fullest extent possible. And certain people, e.g. in Washington, are playing along as well as the father could possibly have hoped for.
Sure, and I said it might have been just a naive mistake by the kid....by why did he set an alarm to go off in the middle of a different class? Was that another innocent mistake? I dunno, it just seems like there is great potential for this to be a set up.
Well, if this was unfolding in a movie, that would certainly make the story more entertaining; I'll grant you that.
Probably because the kid wanted the English teacher to call the police, get himself arrested and interrogated without a guardian present, get suspended, and have the whole story blow up so his father can get some social media publicity in the Sudan.
It's true, it does seem far-fetched that this was pre-planned all the way exactly like that. More likely that the opportunity presented itself out of the blue to the father, and now he and the whole family are pouncing on it. If that is the case, then I guess there is some justice to it, because then the kid DID get treated unfairly, so more power to him if they are now using it as well as they can.
I'm trying to think how many parents wouldn't welcome their kid getting invited to tech companies or the White House in a circumstance like this. I really don't find the family's reaction that strange or suspicious.
That said, it certainly does seem like the kid's family and some interested parties are trying to create the impression that the whole thing happened because of the kid's religious affiliation, and are using it to self-victimize in that context. The police spokesman said that they would have acted the same (wrong) way regardless of the kid's religion or skin color.
Would you expect the police to say anything else? I am sure in their minds they were just being safe. But let's be real here - you honestly think his background had nothing to do with the reactions the teachers and cops had? You don't think they might have a bit more likely to believe him that it was a clock if he was caucasian? You can't even admit that is possible?
Well, Hell's bells, if the police spokesman said it! Anyway, if the kid were white I think this would have been just as big a story, but with way fewer suggestions that he or his father was trying to push people's buttons.
Apparently he thinks its possible that the kid and his dad orchestrated & plan the whole thing, but NO, its probably impossible for him to acknowledge the possibility that the kids muslim background was any factor.
