So why was he better before that?

What changed within the "same" game for him to go from shell-shocked, to good, to apparently shell-shocked again?

That first throw he made was inexcusable... regardless of the reason. In the end, no matter what the root cause of his issues are, he absolutely CANNOT turn the ball over in the opposing team's red zone.

What it boils down to is this, basically. I can't see a new quarterback getting only 3 quartets to prove himself after being named the starter. I'll support either decision. Hopefully Hoyer just doesn't look like hot garbage again.

It's still puzzling why Mallett has never gotten a chance anywhere. There's got to be something the public doesn't see. Maybe its his preparation? Who knows. I realize he was behind Brady. But they could only get a conditional late round pick for him, and as a free agent, he didn't yield a ton of interest...

    Absolutely agree. Absolutely.

The thing that frustrates me the most about Hoyer is that his arm will most likely never be strong enough to let Hopkins shine.

I have no idea what point you are debating. Mental meltdowns compound on themselves over time, but it's not as black and white as you make it. Why can't it be a culmination of events, to which, his mental meltdown heavily contributed.

I did say it was likely a combination of factors... of which his mental block issues could be one of them.

BoB is who we thought he was. Kubiak would have made the switch at 2-10. It's always better to cut your losses asap. I wish it would have been at half-time of game 1.

You can't blame BoB. You saw camp and pre-season. Hoyer fooled us all.

This is sort of unprecedented. Hoyer was seriously benched after 3 quarters.

Our coach deserves a ton of credit and respect for making this switch.

Prediction...in two weeks, we're going to be screaming for Hoyer, lol.

Then we'll send two 2nd round picks to the Jets for Fitz.

Then, we will not draft any QBs in the first 3 rounds because BOB didnt like any of them.

This is a really odd situation.

Normally a new coach has to draft a guy to groom and be "his guy". Then that QB-coach tandem gets about 2-3 years before the plug gets pulled.

But BOB has basically been gifted two of "his guys" that have been groomed by him (Hoyer for 3 years, Mallet for 1) prior to him taking the job here.

So, really, BOB's clock is accelerated here. No one should expect either of his QBs to come in and struggle in year 1. These guys are primed and ready to go. If they come out and s*** the bed, that's 100% on BOB and we don't need to wait 2-3 years to render the verdict.

If they both flame out, I wonder who we target in 2016.

There is nothing that Mallett could do to have fans scream for Hoyer. Nothing at all.

That's what everyone said about Fitz last year.

I dont think Hoyer was nearly as bad as he is being made out to be...he was definitely bad, but I dont think it was the "sky is falling" type of bad. He made two stupid turnovers at the worst part of the field. His TD drive was absolutely excellent though.

We also didnt have much of an OLine.

I do like Mallett in the sense that he'll get the ball out quick, so we need that advantage.

No it isn't when you have crappy options, they switch all the time, it is not like Hoyer has a track record of success - he is worse than Fitz....

Yeah and any fans who were "screaming for Hoyer" even then were fools. I've always looked at Hoyer as a downgrade over Fitz, and I wasn't happy about the Texans bringing Fitz in to begin with.

Again, if Hoyer had just chucked every pass out of bounds every single time he was pressured, it would have improved his game. You get a minimum of a 33 QB rating for 0 completed passes, his QB rating was 11 on downs he was pressured. It's really hard to do worse than he did.
