Not many (only big one I can think of is the Smith keep on the read option). The pressures, sacks, etc. will come sooner rather than later.
Not trying to be negative. I was happy he looked healthy and really that's all I needed to see. I expect the mental/technical stuff to get worked out as we go along.
Hopkins is the real deal. Washington and Shorts looked good. Watt is a freak. Clowney showed potential Wilfork is a hog in the middle Mallett was ready when his number was called.
Oh I didn't think you were, I was just saying that it's easy to forget sometimes that he's such an inexperienced player given the level we expect from him.
Of course, of course. Clowney, all in all, was a bright spot on the defense, which overall was a huge disappointment. Panthers next week should be an easier team to handle defensively, though. Hopefully they bring it next week.
I dont know about your "awful" category. I watched John Simon make a number of plays actually, tho I would just bump that to the 'meh' group. Hoyer was pretty bad, but it was really just the inopportune timing of his terribleness that sucked the most. And there were more than a few plays where hoyer had like 10 seconds to throw the ball. and the running corps had 4.7 avg... thats not bad for the O-line considering we had a back u at LG.
Got to agree on this one.. However, our defense needs to do better in transition. 2 turnovers were turned into 14 points on TWO IMMEDIATE PLAYS. Another issue I saw, not sure who to blame this on (or d for not holding or our O for not pushing far enough) but we had an average starting field position inside our own 20.. NOT acceptable.
Watt is still Watt. He was "held" to "only" 2 sacks and 6 tackles for loss. LOL... Hoyer hopefully sucked bad enough to lose his job Chiefs are a pretty good team. VERY well-coached. Really no shame losing to them. Colts look like they may have some problems this year. Luck can't do it all.

fwiw, if we had started the season with Washington and Oakland like last year, this might be a completely different conversation
Or if we had simply started out with the right QB. BOB's terrible decision to start Hoyer changed the entire trajectory of the season.
It's amazing how Mallet has become some sort of amazing young prospect. OUR SEASON IS RUINED BECAUSE HE DIDN'T START GAME 1! Same old "backup QB" syndrome. Bill OBrien knows way more than we do and he chose Hoyer based on how they looked in training camp. Hoping that Mallet magically looks better in games is a pipe dream.
This is amazing after a year of rehab and not even getting much of a training camp. If we can surround Watt + Clowney with some better LBs this could be a scary defense.
If you watched the game, you'd have seen Mallett playing better than Hoyer did. This isn't some hypothetical.
https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2015/09/14/kc-hou-grades-de-j-j-watt-continues-to-impress/ Pro Football Focus: Houston Texans – You can try all you want to scheme him out of the game with quick passes, screens, and runs to the opposite side, but at the end of the day DE J.J. Watt (+9.3) is simply going to make an impact in one way or another. Recording seven pressures (two sacks), Watt was no slouch in run defense, earning nearly half of his +9.3 overall grade when the Chiefs kept the ball on the ground. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year is showing every sign of being able to retain his crown, tallying eight total stops. – He isn’t quite yet the generational talent he was billed to be, but ROLB Jadeveon Clowney (+1.2) had a solid day despite a limited snap count that saw 12 Houston defenders on the field more than he was. He wasn’t much of a factor rushing the passer, recording a single pressure, yet his run defense was strong enough to overcome that as he tallied three defensive stops in just 30 total snaps. There’s little reason to think he won’t improve as he finds his stride this season and his snap count rises. – QB Brian Hoyer (-1.4) was signed this offseason to be part of the quarterback competition in Houston. Despite being given the start, he eventually made way for Ryan Mallet (+0.3) once the game was all but out of hand. He was best in the intermediate area of the field (10 of13 for 179 yards) and played reasonably well overall, outside of a couple of devastating turnovers deep in Houston territory that led directly to two Kansas City touchdowns. Houston will need better ball security from its quarterback, whoever that may be, if they want to win against the better teams in the NFL. If they can sure up their QB situation, that there’s no reason to think they can’t at least compete in every game this season.
this is pretty funny--because it's possible. (It would have been a given under Kubiak...now, not quite sure)
Washington and Oakland are terrible and not a true measuring stick. The Chiefs were a tough, yet winnable game, and the Texans failed in almost every aspect.
The good WR's looked good but Hopkins has to get more than 1 ball in the first half that was just unacceptable. DLine looked pretty good we didn't a pretty good job against Jamal Charles in the running game but he made us pay on recptions. The bad LB in coverage were ****ing awful. Kelse looked like mini Gronk and that play where he was running free down the sideline I read somewhere where we had 3 guys run towards their WR on that play and he is running basically by himself. Oline was awful we couldn't run the ball and Blue got stood up for no gain on that short yardage play. They were not good in pass protection either giving up 5 sacks. QB has to take care of the ball and we know that has been Hoyers career in a nutshell, but we need him to protect the ball and not take negative plays like Alex Smith did for the Chiefs yesterday.
