yeah, i guess i wasn't clear. i have no problem with harris staying in tonight. i'm saying that worrying about taxing the bullpen in games this big should never be a factor in decision-making. ****-around time is long gone. these are playoff games right now.
The Astros are really showing what they are made of so far on this road trip... Anyway, I no longer have any expectations for this team. You can't suck this bad on the road and be taken seriously. So...whatever...
The Band of Losers finds another way to blow it against a .500 team. I don't care who is called from the bullpen- if it is close and late they will crap the bed, no matter what their ERA is when they walk out there. The Astros are not making the playoffs.
And 3 and 7 in september. I think when we play on the road, we should expect we are going to lose the series, so is score board watching hoping for other team to lose. As i've said, we are not going to win the division, is going to be other teams losing. It looks like this month we are not even going to play .500.
Very little chance. That's when Texas will probably overtake them. Suck on the road + Rangers own the Astros.
And the 2 run inning only happened because the umpire missed a strike 3 call that was completely within the strike zone. Would have been a lead-off strikeout rather than single/double/whatever it was.
2nd straight game a horrible umpire decision costs us a run. Missed call at home plate yesterday and badly missed strike 3 call in the 2nd inning.
I don't know. I always learned that more balanced swings allows you to keep your hands back longer, important against off speed. I get that their current swings better allow them drive the ball and hit HR off mistakes, but now in September and (hopely) in October, being able to adjust would be necessary to beat good teams.
Plus they moved Hamels to pitch monday against the Astros. They could go Hamels, Holland, Lewis and Gallardo in the series if they want. The way we are playing, we can EASILY lose 3 of those 4 games.
Oh, I agree... I wasn't worried about taxing.... and I was taking the premise that this should be managed as a pseudo playoff game. I just thought that Harris for a 2nd inning was just as good an option as Qualls... and in tie games on the road, I don't expect most AL managers to be burning through bullpen arms for one inning only.
I'm not hating on the Astros or anything but it makes me so mad when a team teases you all summer long in being in control of 1st for so long only to screw it up towards the end and not make the playoffs. I mean, WTF is the deal with these guys playing on the road!!?? 28-52 is not going to get it done and it's going to cost them toward the very last game of the season.
The worse call tonight was the ball being called fair on Aybar's ball over the 3B bag. It looked foul in real-time... and looked more foul on replay.
Since Castro went out the Astros are 5-9, and there has definitely been an uptick in the runs per game to 4.2. Yes small sample size, but given this team has been having difficulty scoring runs it has had an effect.
just not enough consistent offense on this team to match the awesome, even if we get in the playoffs we wont go far with only 2 decent hitters
