Recorded last night's, didn't get a chance to watch it. I have faith in Colbert though, it will take a little time for him to settle in. The Colbert Report was so over the top that it takes some readjustment of expectations as well.
Yeah that show was epic. His new show is good and all but it's missing something that I just can't put my finger on yet. I think Fallon still has the better show because of his antics with guests. Colbert is still feeling his way and some of his stuff is hit or miss - like on the 1st show his being under the influence of the evil goat's head. He comes off as super excited and really should calm down a bit. His interview with Jeb was great and I am looking forward to seeing him vs. The Donald.
He's definitely got some quirky comedy bits. I watched it last night with Scarlett Johanson...who is looking better than ever imo. They had some funny moments but his questions seem to me to be more on the dumb, fluffy side strictly designed to elicit laughs. It was probably one of the most non-serious interviews I've ever seen even for a talk show. But, I appreciate Stephen Colbert from his previous show because he had the band Rush on. He has some good comedy bits but my brain is turned off most of the time when I watch him. It doesn't strike me as intelligent humor a lot of the time. Oh...and I didn't really like the show reel intro for him. I guess it has to grow on me. It seemed too long and pointless with boring city shots that eventually go into the theater but it just didn't put me in the mood to watch the show. I'm almost felt like turning it off at that point.
I don't understand how people feel they can judge a brand new nightly talk show after two episodes. These things take time. Remember how poor Conan was when he started and how Late Night evolved into such a glorious show? Colbert is a professional and has been doing this a long time. He'll figure it out.
Ha-ha, no one wants to hear your political bs Stephen. CBS screws the pooch once again by picking the snarky host. The late show should be dead and buried. Just put on two broke girls re runs. It will be more profitable
Fallon is killing him in that demo. Right now he's dead last and has lower ratings than even Seth Meyer
Based on the last 2 weeks of ratings? http://variety.com/2015/tv/news/late-night-ratings-stephen-colbert-jimmy-fallon-kimmel-1201656805/
In the prior 11 weeks since Colbert debuted, Fallon’s margins in 18-49 have been +28% for the week of Sept. 7-11, +38% for Sept. 14-18, +35% for Sept. 21-25, +41% for Sept. 28-Oct. 2, +38% for Oct. 5-9, +56% for Oct. 12-16, +54% for the encore week of Oct. 19-23, +59% for Oct. 26-30, +60% for Nov. 2-6, +70% for Nov. 9-13 and +79% for Nov. 16-20 (and +137% for Nov 23-27). http://www.mediaite.com/uncategoriz...eaten-by-seth-meyers-who-airs-one-hour-later/ Colbert is doing better in 18-49 than old man Letterman was last year. Not a high bar.
What about YouTube views? That's what really matters. No one in the 18-34 demographic watches television.
Colbert's late show has gotten a lot better in recent weeks. Hes gotten back to the Colbert Report style and is once again killing it. His intro music is so damn catchy too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmdmx-ZcVvE
I have never watched this show and probably never will. He's just too political. It's the same reason I stopped watching Letterman the last 20 years. If I wanted to turn into a politics show, I'd just watch Fox News or MSNBC. Say what you will about Fallon but he (so far) has stayed out of the political crap and I enjoy his show because he stays lighthearted.
Exactly. Social media metrics are the only thing that matters nowadays. The demographic who uses these things are the drivers of the new economy. The only clips of Fallon, Myers or Colbert I have seen have been online on Youtube.
This is a thread full of TV executives all of a sudden? How about you leave these shows alone for a while and let them find their audiences?
I was the biggest Colbert report fan I could be so I was a little worried Stephen would lose something by going to standard Late Night format with his real persona. But I found I was getting tired of the news cycle too. Jon and Stephen were just killing the absurdity that passes serious government, making fools out of the foolish, for years on end but it changed nothing. So I'm now enjoying the more light-hearted approach. The guests have been top tier; I'm finding I'm really impressed by people I never heard of. He also has had a lot of scientist, philosophers, authors and entrepreneurs that are not the usual Hollywood types on. There is some political humor because , well you can't avoid Trump though I'd like to. He really gets to stretch his creativity in his skits. I was probably going to like it because I like Stephen so much but I am really enjoying the show. I don't watch any other late night talk shows, I record Stephen and watch it with dinner the next day, but it's a breath of fresh air. (oddly Steve Carell was my least favorite guest so far)
Colbert has really channeled young David Letterman -- I've missed his edgy humor and it's back with a vengeance. I think the show has finally hit its stride Trump makes it easy, but that is another discussion.
Colbert, Noah and Oliver are all pretty damn good. None are as good as Stewart was but they are all getting a lot better, and yeah I can't ever catch them on TV I just watch the YouTube clips.
In terms of their work I'd probably go: 1. Conan 2. Letterman 3. Ellen ( My only daytime additions because it's humor ) 4. Colbert 5.. Sanders 6. Carson 7. Stewart 8. Arsenio 9. Ferguson 10. Maher 11. Fallon 12. Kimmel 13. Rivers 14. Kilborn 15. Meyers 16. Leno 17. Magic
