"Washed up" Chris Paul is the best clutch player in the NBA and will be in All-Star Game this year

Chris Paul took a ton of hate on this board, because he was "washed up", he was missing games, he was declining

This season bookmakers gave OKC 32-50 record prior to the season.

They have 16 wins already and 13 of them were won in the clutch.

At age 34 Chris "lost his first step so now he's dead" Paul:

    • career high 75% at the rim
    • career high 51% from mid range
    • career high 43% above the break 3s
    • career high true shooting %
    • League Leader in clutch points scored with 80 in 92 minutes (SGA has 54 in 90, so it's not about the most minutes played)
    • Has only 2 (TWO!!!) total turnovers in 23 clutch endings with 10 assists
    • Second-best in clutch steals
    • Is sixth in clutch plus-minus: first two are Mitchell and Gobert, four OKC players in Adams, SGA, Shroeder and Paul are next to them with three total points in between. It's simply CP3-led lineup
    • Is making 52% FG% and 39% of his threes in the 4Q
    • Has AST/TO rating is 3.57
    • Averages 4.3 FTA per game, more than ever in Houston. Thunder are playing in almost identical pace that last year Rockets team (97.9 for Rockets, 98.7 for OKC). He had 4 per game from 14/15 till the hamstring injury is Game 5 vs Warriors
    • Hasn't miss a single game
    • Played every back-to-back game
    • With Klay and Curry out he'll be selected again to the All-Star team from the Western Conference.

I think it's safe to say that any conclusions on the end of his game were premature and this board was waaaay tooooooo harsh on one of the best guards ever

Yet his backup, Schroeder, has outplayed him. Better scorer and more minutes played.

Most importantly the Thunder are not doing anything in postseason, if they even get in. Don't wins count in OKC?

Harden owns every stat and is an efficiency god, yet is judged on winning rings but every media twit is lauding Paul on his efficiency and stats? Laughable.

    And this is legit.

Like MDA said in Woj Pod after the trade, Paul has re-defined his game with terrific screeners in Adams and Noel, being much more active with fakes to compensate his lack of first step on drawing fouls and he's doing it while playing a ton of minutes in three-PG lineups, being a secondary ball-handler for the most time of Thunder games prior to the clutch situations, so it's not about having the ball more in his hands.

This 3-PG lineup is second best in the league among 3-man lineups overall with +23 points per 100 possessions

Getting out of that contract for a younger westbrook was a no brainer. Cp3 is still serviceable though.

i don't hate CP at all. he's one of the best pg in the NBA history. the thing is that he's getting old and can't stay healthy through out the season.
it's just a business decision. you try to get a better player when you can. right now, Russ > CP.

Just like you calling others for liking the trade premature, you banking on CP3's health is also premature.

We all enjoyed CP3's time here in Houston, but there were times last season where Eric Gordan was more important to our team than CP3.

Miss him. I just don't miss that 40 million dollar contract. It was definitely time to move on from CP3 just wish it wasn't for Westbrick who still to me does not fit this offense.

Putting up good stats on a bad team doesn’t really prove anything. I appreciate your enthusiasm though.

At the end of the day, if OKC actually wants to win games, The moves they need to make will result in CP3 losing efficiency to be about as good as he was on the Rockets.

He fired his trainer. He’s played 31 straight games without getting on the injury report once this season. That’s the most consecutive games he played since 15-16 where he played 74.

He looks way more fluid and OP his first step is way, way better than last year actually.

It seems no one in the whole NBA is good enough to be the second best player in Rockets team.

It’s not like CP3 didn’t have a fair chance to win a championship in Houston. When we needed him the most, he broke.

I really like CP3. I would prefer a healthy CP3 over Russ. But, I can understand why the Rockets made the move.

What’s done is done. Let’s focus on the team we have right now.
