For a minute I thought this was going to be about some Nba player spending $1 million for one backpack

This is a real good thing. I wonder how much of the money is from Kawhi, and how much of it is Balmer's. I wonder if this was part of the Balmer pitch to KL. If so, it's genius. Come to LA and we will do all these great things in your hometown in your name.

Doesn't hurt that now you will have a generation of kids that are sporting LAC instead of LAL gear as they walk around school. If you were pessimistic enough, you could almost look at this as more of an investment than a charity gift.

If it starts a charity/invsetment war with LeLakers, it would be pretty cool.

Honestly to me it doesn't even matter if it's purely out of goodwill, for publicity, or a mix of the two.

The end result is that the kids benefit from these backpacks and that's super awesome!

NBA players (well, the majority) really do a lot for their communities and what's often forgotten amidst the disdain we often feel for players not on our team is that lots of the guys are pretty stand-up people. Even if some of them do get into fights with Michigan State football players.

Yeah, noticed the backpacks pictured are all LA Clippers merch-- which is great marketing and still a good thing for the kids. Being the over-thinker that I am, the following occurred to me:

    1. Retailers who sell school backpacks in the LA area are getting screwed.

    2. If all the backpacks given out are the Clippers backpacks, I wonder if kids will come to see the Clippers backpacks as a sign of poverty and get bullied for using these free backpacks (some kids can be dumbasses sometimes).

If it is, wouldn't it be a CBA violation?

It also infiltrates the local youths and their fandom persuasion of how theyll grow up rooting for the Clippers instead of that other team. Genius all around.

I'm not a lawyer but I doubt the NBA would say anything about it. Kawhi is not benefiting directly from it other than some good PR, and it's helping poor kids. Imagine the pitch, " I'll give you the most money I can give you, you get to play at home, and I will donate money to the cause of your choice to help the community" That sounds like a win-win for everyone.

Damn. You mean to tell me EVERYONE is gonna have the same damn backpack????

What a nightmare for parents, students, and teachers alike.

All jokes aside, this is a wonderful thing to do for those less fortunate than others.

I remember that some team got slapped on the wrist once for donating to a player's charity. I think it was the Rockets and Yao Ming (not certain about it).

Rockets fans might question the WB trade, but Houston is in for a nice surprise

It said 80% of kids were on reduced lunch so I am guessing most of them are poor. I guess you can get bullied for being more poor.

But the clippers are not donating to KL's charity. They are are donating money to the same cause and letting Kawhi headline it.
