I just read Bima’s write up regarding the Rockets upcoming offseason which was outstanding. I’m just curious about what what Rockets fans think we should go after in case no significant trades are made this offseason.

I was initially thinking we have to get a stretch 4 but I’ve heard some persuasive arguments that support a true SF or even a backup stretch 5.

I didn’t include PG or SG for obvious reasons.

I do realize that’s today’s players can play multiple positions, but for this poll I wanted to limit it to their primary position.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I think they should go after MCW or focus their energy on bringing back Shumpert.

Morey should add a protected first round pick for JaMychal Green at the trade deadline.
    Shumpert sucks.

If I am choosing in a vacuum, a forward who can play both 3 and 4 (like D House). Ultimately though, I go with best player available.

It looks to me like the Rockets have some small trade exceptions. It would be nice if we could nab a solid bench player with one of those and two 2nd round picks.

My boss said Tilman can only spend MLE on 2019-2020 season because of Eric Gordon extension. He would reject if a player wants 2 or 3 years MLE. It's repeater tax concern.

It's tough to say because right now they need an athletic wing or big that can play multiple positions, with rebounding, defense and shooting at high priorities. But the MLE might be used to fill something that's not currently in high need but will be after a trade. A shooting guard or center, perhaps.

JaMychal Green is certainly interesting as a straight add, if he can be had for that price. He has good size (6'9) and wingspan (7'2+). He could fit nicely on the Rockets in that he could play inside and out, on paper helping the interior and rebounding while not hurting you on the other end because he can stretch the floor (career high 40.3% from three last year on relatively low volume at 2.7 3PAs a game). He's also one of the better pick-and-roll defenders.

Acquisition of JaMychal Green proves to be a good fit for Clippers

The Rockets could really use a Jerami Grant-type. Grant signed a 3-year, $27M deal and it's considered a good value. We will see but Green may get more than the taxpayer MLE from someone.

    Indeed. Great writeup, @BimaThug.

If they spend it on Austin Rivers like CF wants, they won't have a MLE to spend.

Rivers was OK for the minimum but I'm gonna explore the rest of the free agency market, see what else is out there.

The MLE use will depend on any trades the Rockets make.

However in general terms the Rockets need someone that is long and can play the 3-4 or 4-5.

Like Clutch said, JaMychal Green would be an excellent fit. He can guard 3 spots in switches and he rebounds, shoots and is long.
He would also get a lot of time at the 5.

Another interesting name to keep an eye on is someone that doesn't seem like a great fit at first.......... JJ Reddick. There is a lot going on in Philadelphia and the Rockets will a long offer could possibly add him. It would allow the Rockets to more easily move Gordon.

I just didn’t think that’s the best use of MLE. That’s all.

Yeah, JaMychal Green is a great fit as a range shooting 4/5. I also feel he could get more than the T-MLE. But maybe the Rocket can get lucky.

I believe that Morey can find a way to offer Ja Green more than 8 million.

Dump Nene and Shumpert payroll/cap hold to start.
