No it doesn’t work Harden just isn’t being himself he looks flustered out there which is why we have Chris Paul

If it didn't work, Snyder would stop doing it. I trust him over random youtubers.

Capela was compromised in game 4 because of the illness and Harden's floater has been neutralized by Gobert/Favors and his own waning confidence in that shot.

Under those conditions, yes I think their defense can work. Will watch the video later on and maybe it changes my mind.

Note, the idea of this defense is to:
    1. Limit Harden's 3s -- that hasn't worked
    2. Limit his free throws -- yes
    3. Limit his layups -- any Utah defense is good at this
    4. Make him pass -- but limit swing passes, so weakside can be used for help. I think it's horrible at this
And it should be measured against Utah's regular defense. What is Utah actually achieving that they don't normally achieve...since they always drop Gobert anyways.

yeah that's what happens when you have to carry a team offensively night in and night out

and in the playoffs when a whole teams defensive philosophy revolves around limiting you to 30pts per game

good thing we have cp3 amirite?

Gobert has done an amazing job contesting that floater. Because of his length he is really able to contest it.

Albeit he has had a lot of legitimate blocks and contests on the floater, he has gotten away with a LOT of contact. Gobert is often not going straight up but rather lunging forward into Harden and the refs ate letting that contract go.

He is fouling Harden pretty regularly eith the floater contest and has only gotten 2 foul calls on it I can remember.

This is why Harden has been hesitant about taking that shot.

2 adjustments I can think on top of my head against this defense.
    • When they are draped in his left side, instead of trying to dribble a step back just go straight up drawing a likely foul.
    • When Rubio is trailing on the drive, hit the step back into him drawing a likely foul. Similar to a sudden pull up eith the defender running into you.

I am curious why we don’t use more 5 out vs Gobert. Force him to the perimeter or off the floor.

Because Gobert won’t follow double virus out to the 3 point line. We could put in Faried and try it though.

clint being ineffective and davis/goble/mauer/brothers/fraher have also been factors here

If you have Gobert then that helps a ton.

I was just looking at Harden's percentages so far. He's shooting 18% from 3-10 feet aka the floater and hasn't taken any shots from 10-16 feet. He needs to ditch the floater against Gobert. He shoots 44% from that 10-16 foot range which is clearly better than what he's doing forcing the floater and the lobs to Capela from the floater have been much lower percentage as well.

His finishing around the basket has been good, but he's not getting there at the same rate as he was during the season. 15.7% of his shots are 0-3 feet versus 23.5% during the season and 30.3% of his shots are 3-10 feet versus 16.6% during the season so things are kind of flipped due to Gobert shutting down the drives to the rim.

I know they want to go with what got them here, but it's so painfully obvious that Harden needs to mix in some pull up jumpers like CP3.

Yea, no ****. Have you ever seen Capela shoot a 3? It would likely have to be Tucker at the 5 maybe Faired but I doubt it.

Game 3 Harden was obviously extremely high due to 4/20. Other games not so much.

I think the answer is because we get absolutely demolished on the boards. It’s good in spurts but it’s not sustainable.

I haven’t seen Capela shoot a decent jump shot let alone a 3. You are right about Tucker. Gobert would have to respect his shot.

Not really. It works in the sense that it's throwing Harden off his rhythm but one can argue Harden always has these terrible games in the playoffs. Usually twice every series.

All I can say is that if Paul George was standing behind Lillard tonight, no way he hits a 40 foot stepback for the win.

And supposedly PG is a good defender? Yeah right.

Harden is actually shooting better from 3 in this series than he did during the regular season.

    He’s shooting 37.5% from 3 while making 4.5 3’s a game.

The only positive about this defense for the jazz is, its affecting hardens ability to finish at the rim and limiting his ft attempts.
