Will go down as an Astros immortal e.g. Mario Elie, Robert Horry etc with the Rockets Underrated career highlight that I've always remembered, as he was one of the few who survived the dark years the Astros had, was breaking up Darvish's perfect game. What a foreshadow of things to come.
Springer's series mvp speech: "This is for my teammates up there," Springer said. "I wouldn't be here without any of you guys, I love every single one of you from the coaching staff to the training staff, EVEN MARWIN GONZALEZ, I love you all."
People of course remember his big homer in the WS, but let’s not forget his defensive heroics in LF gunning people out at home earlier in the playoffs. Marwin and Morton should never have to pay for a drink or meal in the greater Houston area.
He had so many clutch moments with the Astros, including consistent ownage of the Rangers. Everyone from that championship team will be beloved by the city regardless of where they end their careers.
Lets be honest... Nobody on that team should pay for another drink or meal in Houston... Except Ken Giles, who will be charged double.
LOL at the guy at the :32 mark with the double birds! And somebody tell Pasan that that should read SUPER utilityman.
He was an OG, with us when we were still wearing brick red unis. Many, many, memorable moments (Darvish perfect game break-up, cutting down Moreland and Bird in ALDS and ALCS, 9th inning homer off Jansen in WS), but my favorite is probably this GS, mainly because I was in attendance that night, and that's the night I got the feeling that year was going to be special.
Always gonna be a MarGo fan, no matter where he goes. Go get that bag, and we'll see you this summer, friend.
Surpassed the great Billy Spiers as the most legendary and beloved super utility of all time. Move over, Billy. Marwin is the new GOAT.
These highlights are great for MarGo. But it makes me miss Bill Brown, and thankful for Blum coming to town
My wife, who is a VERY casual baseball fan, was really sad when I told her Marwin was gone. We met him once and he was the nicest guy to our kids, plus in her words, “it’s just so sweet the way he holds the bat. Like he’s almost apologetic about the home run he’s about to hit. He’s like the nerdy little kid who turns out to be a stud.”
The Astros probably wouldn't have won the World Series if not for Marwin's HR against Jansen and the "invincible" Dodgers' bullpen. Marwin was a plus defender everywhere he played. I'm pretty sure Altuve and Marwin were the two players that have been with the Astros the longest. Back to the rebuilding days with 100+ losses. Going to miss him.
I got an email read on KFAN Minnesota Sports Radio on Friday about the signing because the host didn't seem very knowledgeable about Marwin. I pointed out that he was integral to the World Series run and our best hitter against the Bosox last year. I'm sad to see Marwin leave the Stros but I'll be happy to cheer him on at Target Field.
I will never forget his grand slam HR against a rival. I have no doubt we Stros fan will give him a thunderous ovation when he gets a tribute video in his first home game in Houston. Sad to see him leave, happy to see him get a pay raise. I will happy to see him rake it and make the All-Star team in 2019 except against the Astros.
