Not sure how much interest this will garner but the new transfer portal is already having a significant impact on college athletics but maybe with some unintended consequences, especially with all the freshman already moving on. At the end, the NCAA really didn't make it any easier to transfer, the biggest impediments/punishments are still there (ineligibility, in-conference restrictions). Rather it just gives students an avenue to be talked into by the likes of Saban, Dabo, Fisher, Herman, Kirby, etc...basically pushing these kids to do it. Would they have transferred regardless of the portal? Possibly. But “free agency” and letting coaches call your kids mid season without restriction seems strange. Should also note that the portal was supposed to be restricted but we are already seeing leaked screen shots of kids names. Maybe a step in the right direction from the archaic transfer rules but we'll see. Regardless, thought it might be helpful to have a running list of some notable names in the portal: Justin Fields (QB - Georgia) - Transferred to Ohio State Kelly Bryant (QB - Clemson) - Transferred to Mizzou Tathan Martell (QB - Ohio State) Jalen Hurts (QB - Alabama) Cameron Rising (QB - Texas) Casey Thompson (QB - Texas)
Ya looks like Buechele could be leaving as well although not in the portal yet. Herman needs one of Rising or Thompson to stay.
Just don't understand this. Kid would've been the starter for a Top 5 team with an offensive minded HC. Instead he'll sit out a year and hope Manny Diaz is a decent HC.
Notre Dame Grad Transfer QB Brandon Wimbush to UCF. Also not sure if this would sway Hurts that much, but Kansas State Grad Transfer QB Alex Delton transferred to TCU.
http://www.espn.com/college-footbal...austin-kendall-2019-eligibility-west-virginia ESPN's Jake Trotter reports that Oklahoma is blocking redshirt junior QB Austin Kendall from transferring to West Virginia with immediate eligibility as a graduate. Not the best of looks for the Sooners, here, as they have been seriously linked to Alabama grad transfer Jalen Hurts over the last week-plus. Kendall has already graduated from OU, but because he would be transferring within the Big 12, they still possess the ultimate say as to whether he would receive immediate eligibility for the 2019 season at West Virginia. A year ago, we saw the SEC switch up its rules to allow graduate transfers to move within the conference whilst automatically retaining immediate eligibility. No such conference-wide move appears imminent for the Big 12, but we'll see if Oklahoma backs down now that this story has been reported on the national wire.
OU goes from Mayfield to Murray to, now, Jalen Hurts. It'd be pretty ridiculous if Hurts wins the Heisman at OU. Has any school produced b-2-b-2-b Heisman winners?
I'm really glad that they "worked through their concerns" and decided to follow the ****ing rules. ******* Okies.
