In a deal that cements Jimmy Butler being traded, Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns has agreed to a 5-year, $190M super-maximum extension, league sources tell ESPN.
Didn't Towns state that he wouldn't sign until this Jimmy issue is resolved? Minny still hasn't done anything with him, aside from reports stating that they're rebuffing trade calls. Boy, that's going to be an awkward locker room.
They're gonna trade Butler, and go nowhere for the next 5 seasons. Towns and Wiggins just don't have it. They have the talent no doubt, but they don't have the attitude. I guess in Minny getting any star is hard to do, so when you get one willing to stay you just have to hold on for dear life and hope.
The cap hit on the Karl-Anthony Towns rookie max extension is: $27.25M, $29.43M, $31.61M, $33.79M and $35.97M. Towns will be subject to the poison pill restriction this season and the extension will begin in 2019-20. For trade purposes, $7.8M (last year of his rookie contract) is used for outgoing salary and $27.6M (the average of the current salary and max extension) for the purposes of determine incoming salary. The total salary could increase to $190M if Towns earns All-NBA, MVP or Defensive Player of the Year this season. The cap hit in 2019-20 would be $32.7M if he earned one of the honors. - Bobby Marks
Thibs agrees with you... he wants to no part of KAT and Wiggins... he repeatedly told both to “not play soft” during games and several times called timeout and grabbed one of them to show them on the floor where they should have been. I must admit that I would LOVE to watch Chriss and Ulis on the court with KAT and Wiggins.... they would literally make Thibs head explode.
poor Thibs...every time u watch a Wolves game u can hear him screaming his ass off on the sidelines the entire game that Wiggins contract was a huge mistake...he hasn’t really improved his game at all and provides basically nothing other than inefficient scoring...he has the talent and physical tools to be so much better than he currently is KAT is damn good offensively, but I’ll never have much love for a big who plays no D...it’s so hard to have a good defense when your C is clueless defensively a few years back during the 15-16 season I was thinking it was only a matter of time before the Wolves become this really scary team with a ton of talent, but now, the future doesn’t look all that bright to me
If Towns doesn't have any icentives it will be a 100 million less, and will likely end up being even 3-5 million less then that with Clint not qualifying for all his incentives.
Huge news for the ROCKETS! This extension confirms that Jimmy will be traded to the Rockets by the end of next week. Jimmy not even in camp. WELCOME TO HTWON HOE IT DOWN JIMMY B
We balk at giving our center 100 mil, while the Wolves didn't even hesitate to give Towns 190 mil, yikes. We got a bargain it looks like
good deal for both sides. kat got paid and minnesotans (minnesotanians? minnesotanites? minnesotine?) have something exciting on the court to look at while their team loses.
