Little gem buried inside the actual Butler article (2nd paragraph smh), that no one seemed to actually read beyond the headline:rolleyes:

"Butler wants a trade to a team that plans to sign him to a five-year, maximum contract that could be worth $190 million in the summer, and his list could expand based upon the Timberwolves' and rival teams' willingness to negotiate a trade for him, league sources said."

    You better believe it.

There's a thread citing this same article as Butler will only accept these three teams when the actual body of the article indicates otherwise.

go big or go home Morey...if Butler indicates that he’d be willing to sign long-term here then the best we can do is Gordon, Tucker, and a pick or 2

Lol Gordon +Tucker is only 22M still short of the 38M Butler is asking.

Maybe we shouldn't have traded Ryno after all...

Butler's contract is 20M for this season, that's what we have to consider in a trade ;)

Gordon and PJ traded for Butler would also lower the tax for Tilman...pretty sure someone already mentioned this, probably @heypartner

Yeah but that's only this season right? I dunno if the Till is gonna absorb that salary next year.

You’d be able to go over the cap for Butler’s extension if you traded for him

He wants to team up with Irving in a New York spot or Kawhi with the Clips.

Yep, next season Tilman will have to pay him big time, but that's up to him.

In the next two summers salary cap will jump up by a good figure though, same for the tax line, meanwhile for this season that trade would actually lower the tax that Tilman has to pay so...all things considered it might not be that bad...save some money this season and go for the big pay next season when the cap will rise again by a considerable figure.

Per Spotrac, that's not his salary, but rather his Cap hit. His base salary is $18.7m. His contract came with a $4m+ signing bonus, (paid upfront) plus a trade kicker. These yearly caphit of the bonus, plus the trade kicker add up to $20.4m. I assume that number must be matched in trade (trade kicker can be waived), but I'm not 100% sure if Tilman has to pay tax on that cap hit, since the previous owner actually paid the signing bonus up front.

    We'd need confirmation from @BimaThug:
    1. Does the $1.15m yearly "cap hit" (using Spotrac's terminology, see Butler's contract table) of a signing bonus factor into salary matching?,
    2. Would Tilman need to pay tax on that yearly $1.15m cap hit attributed to Butler's signing bonus?

Seems like he's purposely limiting the Wolves trade options.

Sources say that Butler demands that the Rockets build a modern practice facility in Tomball as a condition for accepting a trade.
