Saw on a screen with no sound... Britton to Houston for Fisher and Maybin. Implication was imminent but couldn't hear.
We already traded Maybin, so I like that deal a whole lot. eta: there is this from yesterday: https://thebaltimorewire.com/2018/06/17/baltimore-orioles-trade-zach-britton-astros/
Found this via Google https://thebaltimorewire.com/2018/06/17/baltimore-orioles-trade-zach-britton-astros/ Perhaps just speculation
I can't read the Cafardo Boston Globe article that's based on without registering, so I don't know....
Assuming Britton is healthy, Fisher and Martin is a tough price to pay for a rental, but I'm fine with it. Losing Martin would sting though. I think he's good.
Britton for Fisher would be a pretty steep price but I’d be ok with it, especially if Baltimore ate some salary. Britton is a rental reliever coming off of a major injury who is still owed $5M+. And while Fisher floundered in his big league stint this season, he’s still a pretty high ceiling prospect who is easily worth more than the surplus value Britton has. If there’s another prospect involved it needs to be a throw in; Corbin Martin and Derek Fisher is a huge price for 1/2 season of Britton and would be a big overpay imho.
Really don't want to lose Martin. Unpopular opinion: I like him more than Whitley. But probably b/c a. He's a fellow Houstonian (and lifelong Astros fan), b. He's a fellow Aggie, and c. I worry about Whitley becoming Josh Hamilton 2.0 (as in he became sober, but then eventually turned back to drugs).
I'd love to have a high value reliever, preferably a lefty, but I don't see them doing anything that drastic this soon. Unless the market for relievers goes batsh!t hot early. We've seen 2 traded so far (Sea/Wash).
I'm just really big on hometown guys. One of the reasons I'm a big fan of Gerald Green, and it would be cool to have a native Houstonian on the team. Also, heard reports on Twitter that the White Sox scouts have been looking at our prospects, and that the Astros may be looking at Jose Abreu. Not a fan at all, the White Sox always ask for the moon, our hitters are just fine, we have some good guys waiting in the farm, and, why should we help the team that ruined our only other WS appearance?
