"The Rockets once again, have built the NBA’s best offense by zigging where the rest of the league has zagged."

"This has conspired to make the Rockets an ideal spot for veterans to succeed. Less movement means less wear-and-tear on the body, lending a new air of ruthless efficiency to a team that has defined it in the modern era."

Just read this article. Good stuff.

Well written and definitely in a different category than anything an ESPN analyst aka SAS/Kellermen could put out.

It's good to know we have a legit contender the next 4 - 5 years

"More importantly, they run an NBA-low 16.1 miles per game, and the difference between them and second-place Minnesota is as large as the difference between second and 13th."

Rest is overrated because of this. Playing 35+ mins for the Warriors is very much different from playing 35+ mins for this Rockets team.

    Also,

"The Rockets have built best offense and the seventh-best defense in the NBA by goading teams into playing the exact style of basketball that allows them to thrive."

    So true.

Great article. It's crazy to think for the casual NBA fan, Houston has a really fast paced offense that emulates the 7 seconds or less Suns, when in reality, most of the time we are patient and pick and roll to death until we get the switch we want.

Which is hysterical to watch an NBA pregame show and hear "analysts" talk about the Rockets and say stuff like: "They run up and down the court and shoot a lot of 3s, but what are they gonna do in the playoffs WHEN THINGS SLOW DOWN?" hmm? hmmm" hmmm?

    What. Will. They. Do?

This is precisely why the Rockets are a horrible mismatch for the Warriors.

We don't turn the ball over.

    We rebound well.

We switch everything making the Warriors ISO. The Rockets are .16 better in ISO offense than the Warriors.

Over the course of a game with our defensive rebounding/less turnovers,

It creates a gap that forces GSW to have to be on their A game to overcome the deficit.

    It's not just offensive either.

Defensively, with the constant switching, we don't have to fight through screens and run all over the place.

Less movement, less wear and tear, less turnovers, etc.

    Its genius to be honest.

That defensive philosophy is also helping augment Harden's defense. Fighting through screens is one of Harden's worst attributes. So they eliminated that.

Hide the weaknesses, and augment the strengths.

    It's pick and roll ball

When Morey traded for Harden he said pnr is the best offense and Harden was the second best pnr player behind Paul.

I really like this article, though I don't agree that we phased out Ryno. We were playing Ryno less because he refused to shoot when he was slumping. On a team defined by spacing, we can't have a trigger shy shooter.

It was an interview on 790 well into the first season. Another topic was Harden was a lot better than expected

I think the Warriors aren't as injured as most people think. They are definitely just resting their stars for the playoffs.
