http://nba.nbcsports.com/2017/07/23...rreese-speights-to-one-year-minimum-contract/ Speights to Orlando,1 year, minimum ($2.1M). Free agency opportunities drying up, especially for centers.
With our lack of forwards, why didn't we try to sign him? Has he regressed that much?? He can shoot the 3, big strong body, championship veteran experience..
Because we are close to the hard cap and have to keep flexibility if we do get Melo. Speights is not going to push us over the brink even though he would of been a good role player (doubt he would if played though).
He isn't a forward, he's a center. We currently have 4 centers in Capela, Nene, Black and Onuaku. We are pretty set at center. Speights is a solid offensive bench big but he's not a good defender, I'm guessing we pursued Black over Speights for defensive purposes.
I agree, particularly given the context of D'Antoni being the coach. What the team does not have is a "traditional PF" but D'Antoni never likes to use these guys anyway. Instead, we got guys who can fill the role that Shane Battier filled for LeBron's Heat team: Shoot 3s and eat PF minutes on defense.
Seems like whoever didn't sign deals early lost out on getting paid. McGee is also still sitting out there with not much more than min offers.
There's just always been something about the guy I haven't liked. Maybe it's the constant scowl on his face? Or the alien lifeform growing out of his head?? Either way, I'm not losing sleep over this. Also, how does a guy who's made millions of dollars not throw a few scheckels to a surgeon to lop that thing off his skull?
