Glancing at the stats of each, good arguments could be made for getting rid of either. Both guys suffer in the early innings, but at least Fiers gets better as the game rolls on where Musgrove doesnt.

Musgrove is also only 24 years old and has legitimate long-term potential. Fiers is 31, and the guy has given up 17 home runs in only eight starts. We know what we have in Fiers, and it isn't very good. We don't really have a large enough sample size on Musgrove yet.

Lets move the guy who is leading the league in giving up home runs. I think peacock needs to start in place of Fiers.

    Past Calendar Year
    Name_________K/9_BB/9_HR/9 _______ERA FIP xFIP WAR
    Joe Musgrove 7.64__2.74__1.50_______4.74_4.58_4.24__0.9
    Mike Fiers____7.53__2.89__1.92_______4.70_5.30_4.41__0.4

Looks close. Musgrove has a smaller HR problem and a smaller fly ball problem. If Astros replaced one in rotation from someone outside active roster, it would likely be Musgrove as they could send him to AAA...unless Fiers was agreeable to getting "injured". If it is Peacock, I expect it would be Fiers to the pen.

That would be nice, but I am trying to be realistic. Moving both would require 2 better arms coming in. Hard to see unless McHugh can contribute.

I see you liked my Mustgoe :)

    1) Keuchel
    2) McCullers
    3) McHugh
    4) Peacock
    5) Morton

This ^^^^ would be sweet though.

Age is an important point. Also, Fiers costs more $$$. About 3M more.

    Peacock has earned another start.

Fiers pitched better last time out than Musgrove, but Musgrove has been better on the season. I'd drop Musgrove to the 'pen and have him relieve Morton/Peacock/Fiers (whoever needs it the most next) soon, and give Fiers 1-2 starts to show that last time was real improvement. Can always swap him and Musgrove after that if it makes sense

No way Musgrove goes to the pen. If I'm GM, I move Musgrove to AAA; its likely they will trade from their upper levels pitching (possibly even Musgrove) to acquire a ToR SP so they will need depth in AAA. Judging from Musgroves post game comments his confidence is shaken, which is almost always a precursor to getting sent down. Fiers can hold things down until they make that trade or McHugh returns, then he can be a long reliever.

Musgrove certainly has shown better stuff and has more potential. Of course Fiers is more proven and he can't continue to give up HRs at this rate (you'd think at least).

Musgrove/Martes/Reed/Fisher would be my trade proposal for Cole.

Musgrove needs to be sent down so he can work on his location within the strike zone.

If this happens and Musgrove isn't traded then if he improves Musgrove will be a factor after the all star break.

Fiers seems like the perfect guy to bring in as a reliever only with people on base, since he's outstanding outside of solo HRs. ;)

Why would we move Musgrove? This is only his second season in the big league and up to this point has pitched a total of 108 innings in the majors. Move him to AAA? Sure, but unless he's part of a larger trade to get a good starter then he has shown he has good stuff and potential to further develop.

Fiers has no trade value, Musgrove does, so I'd keep Musgrove for seasoning and potential to trade for grade A starter.

What I meant was moving out of the starting rotation. Not necessarily moving them off the team. In the case of Fiers, waivers might be the only recourse. 25 man roster spots are pretty valuable. More so than his $3M salary.

So far, it seems there is pretty high approval for replacing Fiers with Peacock. That might be all that is warranted for the time being. If/when McHugh returns might warrant another move.

Ah that makes more sense. I was just baffled since Musgrove is a young guy with some good stuff who maybe needs some more polish in AAA.

Average Joes must go. If I'm not mistaken, Fiers' last 2 outings were very strong, but he got no run support.
