Good article. Keep up the good work! I hope the voters see it, but I keep worrying about the Dream/MVP Robinson thing, but I think the award is handed out in June this year. I don't understand that. I thought the MVP of the league was supposed to get every call during the playoffs? Now refs have to guess? This series is going to be weird, but hopefully good-weird.

I hope the vote leaks before June 26th... that's stupid.

I love this post, but unfortunately the MVP voters are blissfully ignorant to reality. What James Harden has done this season is nothing short of miraculous and yet he is vilified by a majority of the voting press who always reward a feel-good narrative over the truth.

    At least Durant knows...

Now the media needs to acknowledge it!

Fantastic read, thank you for the write up.

How can I not agree with this?

Keep in mind that the voters this year don't have many dogs in the fight like they have in the past. Every radio guy and broadcaster for the local team has gotten their vote taken from them. This year they were told no to MVP voting.

I think they should bring back player voting like they used to have.

If that were the case in previous years, this might be Harden's 2nd MVP.

Agreed. James was hurt by haters, not 'true' voters.

An excellent read, clutch citizen! Glad to see yet another member contribute to the Front Page. Nice summation of the pros and cons of the two players and why James should win, and without bashing Westbrook's accomplishment. People on the fence about who should win the MVP race ought to read it. The Beard is my MVP, regardless of how this turns out. Hey! I'm not prejudiced! ;)

It's not easy writing stuff, people. It's not like posting takes here (and I mean posting on the BBS, not writing columns!), which is a breeze. I've been working on a couple of things for years. I keep the recycling people here in Austin in business with the paper I toss in my office trash can (I'm old school). Oh, it's easy for some folks, and perhaps for you, but not for most writers, especially of fiction, in my opinion. My sister sweats blood meeting deadlines for her romance novels (yeah, its fun being shown up by your older sister, although she's great about it). Again, kudos, OP!

Thanks for reading and for the kind words! Writing's a lot easier when it's the truth. Clutch does us fans a great service, it's only right that we give back in any way when we can.

Great write up (although I could use a few less animated GIFs, something I rarely say).

One interesting observation is top 3 seed always wins the MVP ...but even that is a stretch.

A 3 seed has only won MVP twice in 30 years.
    A 2 seed only 5 times.
A 1 seed won the remaining 23 times.

Being a 3 seed kinda opens the door for this silly debate cause a watered down 3 seed isn't much of a stretch for a 6 seed, I guess.

Thanks for reading! Animations can be a gif or a curse. *rimshot

The top-3 seed observation sort of backs up Harden's answer to Feigen: winning matters, and it has for a long time in recent history. Westbrook's counter to that is he's done something no one has ever done in the NBA. He's also done other things that havn't been done in a very long time. So has James Harden on both accounts. The separator is team performance. The 3-seed had the MVP only twice in the past 30 years, but that's 2 more than any 6-seed.

I find it funny that 2 years ago the race was between Curry and Harden. They had similar stats but Curry won because of his teams success. This year Harden won't get it because of his teams success.
