There are 9 games left. They trail the 2 seed by 6 games and are up 6.5 on the 4th seed. Realistically they are stuck with the 3 seed. I don't see what the upside of playing him is. He might get hurt.

Shut him down 100%. Develop Dekker, Trez, and let Lou get a feel for running the offense.

i don't know about shutting him down, but definitely resting him. Although I don't know if James will allow it since he still have MVP on the line.

Completely shutting down is really bad imo. that means you are cold for the playoffs

You might want to limit some minutes of key players, but this is where you do you final polish before going in 100% for the playoffs.

They should have stated tonight . We had a great opportunity to rest him the entire 4th and for some reason dantoni decided to say "eh **** it"

Assuming that wrist is ok, hell no. Clinch the 3rd seed first.

Ryno should not play at all. Harden, Ariza, Gordon and Bev should only play like 20 minutes each. Play Dekker, Lou and Brown 36 minutes a game.

I'd be fine with James getting some rest down the stretch, but not with them shutting him down completely. They haven't clinched the 3 seed, and they need to build some momentum heading into the postseason. Shutting him down could make them ice cold going into Round 1.

I'm not against selectively minimizing his court time.

But the Rockets aren't going to win a title by just throwing the guys they have out there after running a totally different lineup for 3 straight weeks. Have to develop and maintain chemistry. Obviously the Anderson injury already makes that difficult. Running the entire team through Gordon for weeks would be way, way bigger in terms of chemistry impact.

Sigh, AL, this is such a pointless thread that you know in your heart is a bad idea. Why is anyone wasting their time reading any of this?

The max I would sit him , unless he is hurt , is 2-3 games and prolly not in a row . Then the other games rest him a bit .

We won't though . Because we were up 20 tonight and chose to put him back in . If we aren't gonna take that opportunity then I dunno what is gonna change our mind.

Rest him the next two-three games would be nice for his health...

But I want the guy to win the MVP...Lets not give the naysayers anything to say about him NOT playing as one of their excuses...

I agree with some posters, have him be leader/coach/player from the bench and let lou take his spot. Not completely rest him, but have him be involved in causing Lou's leadership. This team will be unstoppable in the playoffs if Lou's leadership is galvanized between now and the playoffs leading that second unit. He's got better composure and vision than Gordon and Bev. Just sayin.
