"Roberson is useless" Anyone who can slow down an MVP candidate like that is at least as valuable as a 20 PPG scorer. GIve me Roberson over Ariza all day.
As the MVP, the onus is on Harden to figure out how to overcome Roberson's defensive tactics. Now is a good time to start. Could face them in the playoffs.
1) Westbrook has no help!!1 2) Harden always seems to get stymied by the elite wing defenders in the league (Butler/Iguodala/Allen/Roberson/etc.), then comes back in later games only to figure them out and dominate them. He learns their tendencies.
Roberson is definitely underrated. Man, I wish we had a legit elite perimeter defender like Roberson who can slow down LeBron, Kawhi, Harden, Curry, Westbrook, Lillard, CP3, Kyrie, etc. on a nightly basis. Who cares about his offense, we already have bunch of good shooters and scorers on this team; we don't need anymore offense. What we lack is a legit elite defender. Beverley is the closest we've got, but he's too small to cover anyone outside of his position.
People forget how much defensive help Westbrook has. That Adams-Roberson-Oladipo lineup is super solid defensively. And now they've added Taj Gibson to their starting five. That's a stout defensive team (except Westbrook, of course).
Incorrect. Westbrook has no help. All of their wins are entirely because of him. He's also averaging a triple double. That's why he's the MVP.
Never forget the former "Harden stop signs" P.J. Tucker and Wes Matthews. That was a memorable three seconds.
Given that Roberson shoots 25.9% from the 3 point arc, if he was a Rocket, I am guessing that he'd get close to Corey Brewer level nuclear heat on this board.
Did Corey Brewer ever slow down LeBron, Kawhi, Westbrook, Curry, etc? If he did that, nobody would care about his offense. In terms of 'points saved' the ability to slow down a superstar like that is at least as valuable as a capable scorer who sucks on defense.
Roberson is no Harden stopper. Nobody can truly stop Harden. Harden has routinely destroyed OKC. He's struggled this year, but last year he dropped 37, 33, 24 with 16 assists, and 41 points.
