4 years 37m, first two years guaranteed. Should the Rockets match? Or should they let him walk and keep that cap room for next year? Thoughts? DD
Match Morey's original offer in July was $8m. This is marginally different, so he won't see free agency risk to what he already planned. Plus, huge WIN if DMo returns to 2015 form. $9m per in year 3 and 4 is a HUGE bargain.
My thoughts all along. I'm partially curious as to why the Nets made such a match-friendly offer. Then again, I guess it's just high enough where Morey has to mull it over, and it's not crippling if Houston decided not to match for whatever reason.
Meh, doesn't matter to me. Not the end of the world if they don't. Not significantly better if they do. Vastly overrated here.
Fair. They also have loads of cap room. But I see your point...I'm just evaluating motives / looking at all angles
Motive is the guy is a big man whose had back surgery and has not proven anything since coming back. You don't break your piggy bank when there are so many unknowns. Now if D-Mo had been a stud before his injury, this would be a different song.
More info on the deal - only first year is guaranteed. From: Topfive Here's what The Vertical's Bobby Marks, who was a Nets exec for two decades, had to say about the contract: "The first-year salary for Motiejunas will start at $9.3 million before bonus considerations and decrease in the next three years. The second year of the contract doesn’t become guaranteed until the team exercises a trigger during the first season of the contract, league sources told Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, and each July prior to the 2018 and 2019 seasons, there’s a trigger date to make a decision on Motiejunas’ deal." Marks makes it sound like only the first year is guaranteed, with the three remaining years all being team options. The rest is here. Thanks Top5
DEFINITELY MATCH. If this is actually true, Morey is probably looking over this with a fine tooth comb going "What's the catch here?!?"
