The Astros wing of the forum is where the moderates live, so we're pretty shy about new threads LOL. Morosi is certainly as legit source, and if they are opening the checkbook to this magnitude it is certainly huge news. Having said that, until they actually pull the trigger on this much spending, I'm gonna be hard pressed to believe it. Kicking the tires is one thing, but to actually take on that massive contract (almost entirely in the late 30's) would be a seismic shift from what we've seen.
I'm good with it either. This could almost offset the fact we have an average pitching staff, and it fills the void. Reed is an asset that is expendable at this point. The tigers have dealt with us before, and successfully. Do it. Spend the money boys and if you can add another pitcher pile it on. We exhausted the minors. Time to go get a couple of fishies. If we only get one big fish on offense I'd be happy with that effort.
Crane/Luhnow have been so disciplined and patient payroll wise that they can afford to take a shot on a player. Miguel Cabrera would be an absolute game changer, no doubt about it.
Some people are funny. Miggy is the best, or second best, pure hitter on the planet. I probably put him 2nd behind Trout. Instead of appreciating the huge offensive force and stability he would add to our lineup, some will focus on age and salary. Spending money, even a lot of it, for very good players, is ok guys.
Sounds exactly like a direct quote from an Angels fan about 5-6 years ago when first rumors of Pujols to Anaheim surfaced Nearly exact same type of player Nearly exact same age at time acquired Nearly exact same bloated contract paying megabucks into twilight of career If this is part of a bigger trade, where we also get Verlander, and the Tigers eat a ton of salary for the favor, then I'll listen
If he was on the market, I'd give up the farm for Trout. Positions us better for the long term. Bregman, Altuve and Correa are the only names off the table.
$60m of dry powder per the Astros event I just attended. Another interesting tidbit that Moreland mansion in casual conversation was that the players union is trying to shorten the regular season possibly back to 154. Said it was a long shot tho.
as long as none of them forget to play beisbol when they get here. Nice additions either one. I don't like the length(that's what he said)of the contracts.
RF Springer CF Bregman 2B Altuve 1B Cabrera SS Correa DH/C McCann 3B Gurriel C/DH Gattis LF Aoki Sick lineup.
RF Springer 3B Bregman 2B Altuve 1B Cabrera C Gattis DH Gurriel LF Aoki CF Marisnick I dont think you can have Bregman in Center, and I like his glove at 3rd. Bring in a RF and put Springer in center even.. Screw it, throw all the money and prospects.... Cabrera, Sale, and Cespedes. LOL
Dammit... I had Giancarlo Stanton in my head - your mentioning Verlander snapped me back to reality. If the Astros are really willing to spend BIG money, I'd rather they go after Joey Votto. He's younger, in terms of tire tread and cheaper, longer-term. Plus, he's left-handed and has a game that can theoretically be sustained into your 30s.
