Are they going to fire the coach or what? They have beaten a couple teams, but they looked so bad against UT. I don't think I've ever seen a worse defense. Kliff has had enough time to have a defense by now. And offense is a one man show with Mahomes. They just play dink and dunk on offense. Never any kind of a deep threat. Probably the least impressive team relative to their resources I've seen UT play this year. I guess 2008 will be as good as it will ever get for Tech. Kliff should be ashamed
They are not going to fire Kliff. Who else are they going to get in there? Spoiler From August 2015: "Kliff has had enough time to have a defense by now." Tech has never had a good defense(not recently anyways) and no surprise they still don't have one. They've had 8 defensive coordinators in the last 10 years. Lyle Setencich (2007) Ruffin McNeill (2007-09) James Willis (2010) Chad Glasgow (2011) Art Kaufman (2012) Matt Wallerstedt (2013-14) Mike Smith (2014) David Gibbs (2015-present)
To be fair, no team in the conference is fielding "a defense" currently but Tech is giving up an unbelievable amount of points. Don't think they fire him this season but not sure how many more DCs they can go through.
You saw the game yesterday. Am I exaggerating on Tech's defense? Seemed like most downs they just asked Foreman if he wanted an escort for 60 yards or what not to the end zone. No resistance at all. I feel like UT with a proper play caller yesterday would have scored every possession they didn't fumble. Maybe I'm off, but the defense just did not seem worthy of Power 5. Unacceptable. If I was an alumnus or fan, I would be pissed as hell. Why the f did the powers that be commit to a coach who doesn't realize there art two sides to football?
You get a lot of credit, but not enough. That was some good info. I don't like coaches having long contracts. I don't have a contract at my professional job. Does anybody? Why do they have so much leverage? Keeps putting schools in bad spots. If you're Saban, take whatever contract you want. Urban Meyer? Where is the dotted line? These other coaches? Take your fat salary and go earn it!!!
Kliff is owned 15 million over the next 4 years, that is not money Tech can afford to eat. He'll be there for a while.
Wasn't David Gibbs a well-thought-about guy? Was he from UH? I have no idea why Tech hasn't been able to play defense for 15 years or so.... Other than they just don't care, kinda like Baylor. TCU can do it, why not them?
One reason they don't play defense is they cant recruit and never have depth. That's why they started the pee-pee offense, to hide the talent gap. Another is, it's hard to get good or up and coming DC's to join your staff when you're in the Big 12 and every team goes spread. They don't want to damage their reputation trying to stop 50 pass attempts a game with a 2.5-star secondary. There's an aspect of self fulfilling prophecy that has been eroding the entire conference's ability to play defense.
Do you all play that different of an offense? Is there a better offense to run for college football? I don't know - I'm actually asking.
No, Laugh at ziggy. aTm runs the same offense, so do most of the others. They do tackle better, though.
Everyone is running that offense now to some degree. But for Tech, it started as a clever gimmick that helped them compete against better teams. They seem overly tied to that identity, hired a 20 year old coach over Tuberville who went undefeated in the mighty SEC. In the Big 12 there is no better offense to run because no one in that conference is able to stop it on a regular basis.
I know it's been forever, but Mike Leach should still be the head coach of this program. It's pathetic what happened to him. Texas Tech would be more relevant today if he was still the head coach.
Tuberville left that dumpster fire on his own for Cincinnati. How's he doing at Cincinnati, BTW? Oh, he's 4-5 and telling fans to "Go to hell" & "get a job."
So, it's cool when A&M runs the offense, but it's a gimmick when the Big 12, does it? So, when that 20 year old coach takes A&M to beating Alabama and Heisman town, it's cool. But now that the 20 year old is in the Big12, he is unqualified? OK That said, I get what you mean and kinda agree. I am just wondering if there is a weakness to these spread offenses and if they are just going to take over more and more.
