Pat Beverley likely to miss season opener

btw: Opener is next week ... get ready
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Rockets do not expect guard Pat Beverley to be available in time for next week's season-opener,
Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni said, as Beverley works his way back from irritation on his left knee.

Beverley did not attend Tuesday's practice to instead have a doctor's appointment to re-examine the knee.

"We'll know more by the end of the week," D'Antoni said. "I'm not counting on (Beverley returning by the season opener.) Can't count on that.

"There's always concern until (Beverley) gets back on the floor, but we'll deal with it. If it's more, he'll do it and he'll be back as soon as he can. The season is long. He's going to be a big part of what we do. We have patience. We can wait on him."

Guard Pablo Prigioni, who missed Saturday's game with a sprained left shoulder suffered on a hit by Pelicans center Alexis Ajinca last Wednesday in Beijing, did not practice on Tuesday. He is uncertain to play Wednesday in Dallas, but D'Antoni said he "for sure" will play Friday in San Antonio.

Beverley was considered certain to start in the backcourt with James Harden. With Beverley out, D'Antoni has used K.J. McDaniels in the past two games, hoping to keep Eric Gordon in his sixth man role. With Beverley unlikely to play in the season-opener, he could move Gordon into the starting lineup.

"That's part of basketball," D'Antoni said. "We have other guys ready to step up. Eric Gordon has been playing great. Pablo and different guys will step up."

this franchise is the most pathetic org in history at lying about injuries. and it's like they really believe the fans are gullible enough to eat up their crap even after decades of the same **** lol

Bev should rest and make sure he is 100%. Let him take his time during recovery.

We will not need him until the Western Conference Finals anyway.

This pretty much seals the deal with the Bev over Gordon starting debate. Gordon is the starter for the year provided he doesn't struggle or is out long term due to health

As much as I love Eric Gordon and like to see him play next to Harden, he is better as a 6th man. They can't risk playing him as a starter, because he'll get injured. I feel the same way with Patrick Beverley. I think K.J McDaniels should be the starter.

What's the infatuation with fans wanting to put a name on an injury? If I they say Bev has a sprained knee and will be out for 2 months what's the difference if they say he has a broken knee and will be out 2 months?

Personally, I don't care what the injury is, tell me when he'll be back.

I feel like "knee irritation" is not a Real Diagnosis. This is very much giving me shades of DMo "lower back soreness, out 1-2 games." Fully prepared for Bev to miss the season altogether because Houston sports.
