Fortune Cookie Problem

    I just ate a fortune cookie. Wasn't paying attention and I ATE the fortune. Will it harm my digestive system?

    Only if the fortune in the cookie was bad news.

    Don't worry - it probably said something like, "You will eat a tiny piece of paper very soon"

    The cookie is probably worse for your digestive system than the paper. OK, maybe not......go get a colonoscopy immediately!!

    The inks on the paper are known to cause cancers, go to your doctor right away and have him/her extract the piece of paper. :p

    Most of us don't have this problem because we're actually interested in seeing what the fortune says first. ;) But whatever.

    The fortune is made from cellulose (essentially, plant or wood fiber) and will not be completely digested. It will pass through and out the other end, though not in its recognizable form. This is not a bad thing. Fiber helps keep things moving. And you can stay regular for the rest of your life. :D

    My Dad has been telling the same joke for 30 years whenever we go out to eat at a Chinese restaurant.

    Everyone around the table reads their fortunes, then he reads his, and it always says....

    Help! I'm being held prisoner in a Chinese fortune-cookie factory!

    yeah no kidding. i'd be more worried about how you ate the fortune without knowing, than what paper can do to your digestive system.

    No, I was talking on my cell phone while driving home from the chinese buffet and talking to a friend riding in my vehicle. I just ate it.
