i heard that she turned a little bit south yesterday...and there are some models that have her slamming into central america. but the path you posted is the national weather service's...so it's likely we'll have a storm in the gulf early part of next week.
No way that stays on a straight shot to McAllen. Almost all these things turn north and then back east a bit. If anything, the upper Texas and Lousiana coasts are in danger.
Does anybody else out there get excited when a hurricane comes your way, then at the last minute say, "Go Away!!!".
yes, i'm always looking forward to the offhand chance that my house could be swept away in a raging river of mud and debris.
The high pressure to the north is a lot stronger than expected and if Emily isn't able to gain any latitude in the next 24-36 hours, she is going to have a hard time getting much stronger or making any kind of a turn to the north. The southernmost prediction models (which have thus far been the most accurate) show her hitting Central America with the northernmost showing her hitting the mid section of the Yucatan Peninusula. At this point, 5-day predictions are a little rocky, but I'd say somewhere in the southern Yucatan seems most likely given the strength of that high pressure system. She's moving pretty damn fast too. If that is the case, Emily will likely die out over Mexico.
Hurricanes are great! The media really beefs 'em up to sound worse than they are, but unless you live in a trailer park, they come around and bring rain and wind to a dry, hot, still summer day. The really destructive ones only come around every 10 or 20 years, and if you're prepared and have a decent house, you'll be fine. I love 'em!
Someone else can have it, we had a catagory 1 hurricane a couple of years ago and we had no power for three days, go away Emily, you b****.
Just admit that you have a photo of Dr. Neil hanging on the wall in your house. You've obviously missed your calling. You should be on ABC 13 instead of that crackhead Ed Brandon.
me too Alicia was my first...it killed our neighborhood. spawned twisters left and right. took part of the roof off of my house..we lived in a hotel for 7 weeks. fair amount of damage downtown. lots of damage throughout the area..particularly so at the coast. there were a series of tropical storms during the summer of 88 or 89. chantal, i think was one. did tons of damage...tons of rain. flooding. not good. i'm sure you remember allison. when i was younger i liked hurricanes...thought it was cool. when i was a renter, i didn't mind them so much. now i own a home with lots of big oak trees around...and have two children to care for. i'm not interested in a hurricane hitting here. it's a colossal pain in the ass...and they can be quite dangerous. no, thanks.
The only hurricane I went through was David in Homestead Fla, Kinda boring. But I thought the interesting part was that everyone has to climb up and take the coconuts out of the tree in order to prevent them from becoming wind blown missiles. And afterwards the alligators seem to be everywhere. I don't remember of lot of snakes or turtles tho'. Not sure where they went. I missed out on andrew, but it was fierce, and destroyed my hometown. Insurance companies couldn't find the houses they had insured. And I'm not kidding.
my mom told me that...i believe right before hurricane carla...there were tons and tons of snakes crossing over from galveston island to the mainland. not sure if she was there to see that or if she just heard that story.
