Jul 5 Dodgers.MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports Los Angeles Dodgers SS Cesar Izturis (hamstring) missed his fourth game Monday, July 4, and could head to the DL, taking advantage of the All-Star break. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlbpa/players/6638/news This could be Morgan's opening for the ASG. You never hope for someone to get hurt and Morgan certainly earned it on his own. However, anyway to get him to Detroit next week would be great.
Because he is a SS and Ensberg is not. If Izturis doesn't make it, theyll almost have to pick another SS. I know Ensberg has played SS in the minors, but I don't think he can in an ASG.
They've already taken two SS though, it would leave two SS and two 3B on the roster - and there's no SS who even remotely touches Engsberg's qualifications.
Eckstein was picked by the fans; Isturis was picked by the players; Lopez was picked by LaRussa. My guess is LaRussa would be fine with Eckstein and Lopez (the best of the 3) and haf to include Isturis. If he's DLed, I'd bet money that Ensberg goes - he's the universally agreed to "snub".
Well, now Derek Lee went down tonight with an apparent shoulder injury. With 2 possible open spots, one would have to think that Morgan is a shoe-in.
^^^ Mexico beat us 2-1 in a baseball game? Wow! If it were soccer or something gay like that I wouldn't have cared.
Lee would probably still be replaced by a 1st baseman (Nick Johnson or Delgado). If Lee is out Pujols would be the only 1st baseman. Ensberg would probably only replace an outfielder, 3rd baseman, or shortstop.
Man... with Oswalt hopefully winning the fan vote, and Ensberg as a replacement... the Astros will have FOUR all-star representatives for a team that's not in direct contention as of yet (meaning, they're not the division leader, or wild-card leader). That is some serious mojo working towards a second-half run.
Yep, I don't understand why they needed 3 SS's on there in the first place, when the third 3B had much better qualifications.
Cesar Izturis is going to the ASG anyway. He is on the DL retroactive to last Thursday and will be eligible to come off one day after the ASG. The Dodgers Manager said he WILL attend the ASG, but will not play. Sucks for Ensberg, AGAIN!!!!!
They can all attend the ASG... but if they're not going to play, they need to be replaced. That's how Beltran got on the team last year.
Which means they will fill the roster spot. They're not going to play a man short (even with a 32 person roster). He'll still be there for the ceremonies and parties. They can fill the spot. It would be an enormous tragedy should Ensberg not be chosen.
Uh...if he's hurt & can't play, then they get to add another player. Izturis will still go & get introduced before the game.
Thanks for setting me straight. I was under the impression that he CAN play, but PROBABLY would NOT...at least according to Malone. If he MIGHT play, then he IS on the active roster. Who knows!
