worked with him for nearly a year in Nashville...He has an area manager position in a retail store like me, and thought nothing of him in particular.
One day we are talking baseball in the breakroom, and he adds his two cents worth like he knows better...To that, I say something to the effect of how would you know?...and his response is that he was a major league relief pitcher for several years...
wow is the first response in my head, but with skepticism...Of course he has his card in the wallet from several years ago...and sure enough it's the Joe Boever I vaguely remember as a pitcher from the Astros in 1992...Of course, he played with several other teams as well in his baseball career.
Just a regular guy.

I worked with a guy for a little while who was a starting pitcher prospect for the Astros in their single A club. He could throw 95, but not do much else, which I think is why he saw the writing on the wall and quit baseball to start another career. He had some good stories, though.

That's really a substantial major league career. 12 years of even a minimum veteran salary, plus his pension, should have him financially set for life. Really a workhorse reliever.
