Sources confirm that G Sarunas Jasikevicius, the star of Lithuania's national team, will join the NBA next season. Jasikevicius poured in 28 points in Lithuania's upset win over Team USA in last year's Olympics. There is no questioning Jasikevicius' credentials as a leader--in addition to his performance with the national team, he helped lead the past two European Final Four champions (FC Barcelona and Maccabi Tel Aviv) and again has Maccabi in the final four, slated for early May in Moscow. Still, though most NBA personnel execs agree there is a spot for Jasikevicius in the NBA, his role will be reduced. "He may not have the complete freedom to play the way he does with his national team, and that makes a huge difference in how a player plays," says one general manager. "In the NBA, he would be a backup." . . .

Would he help us at all? Outstanding 3 point shooter; consistently makes half of his "2 pointers" and has that fire. Has pretty good size at around 6-2. Will be 29 years old this year though.

I remembered he palyed well in the olympics but no specifics. ANyone care to chime in may.

Hey, I don't know if you know, but the playoffs start this week. Might want to check them out.

This thread will get moved, of course.

I am very impressed with the Jasikevicius dude. From what I saw, he was very very good. Plus, I remember he graduated from the U of Maryland. So I assume he's used to the style of the US games.

I want to gamble on this guy much more than on the Greek dude we got.

Hey I don't know if you know, but there's an offseason after every season. The chances of us winning it all ain't too pretty. We will need to sign some players in offseason. And he's a possibility.

Smartass.

He can shoot lights out. A better shooter than Bibby but not as quick to the bucket. Good passing skills, oh, and did I say, he can flat out shoot it. Shooter, big time. Would be an upgrade over Sura in the shooting department. But not quick enough to guard the pure points in this league, kinda like Sura. But he can shoot better than Mike James. His shot goes bang, bang, bang. But his footspeed is lacking and he will be a sieve on defense. All the opposing PGs will go off on him. But he can shoot. J.J. Redick is his son and Salim Stoudamire is his south side cousin. He can shoot it. Exciting player to watch.........................shoot.

There's a possibility of anything. There's a possiblity I will play for the Rockets next season, but it's not going to happen. You're talking about a 29 year old who has been trying to get into the NBA since he left college 8 years ago. You're saying he's the missing piece to get to a championship? He would be the back up to the back up of Sura or whoever the point guard is.

Sarunas is looking for a healthy dose of first team action and I am not sure he can get that here at least immediately. He is already rich and comfortable in Europe - he gets paids millions per season - so I him really picking and choosing where he plays.

It was reported today that Cleveland is pushing for him.

He could be a backup spot shooter, but he is too slow to be effective in this league with his outside shooting.

Unlike Steve Kerr, or Tim Legler, who were just speed speed speed.

I'd say (and I'm guessing) that Sarunas would be on better money in Europe than he would get in the NBA - not because they pay more in Europe, but because he's worth more over there!

So for a team to give him a whirl they would probably need to invest a couple of mill per season on him, not the standard old league minimum.

You see plenty of players who "could" play in the NBA never play here because teams don't want to waste such a large amount of their cap on a pure gamble!

If I remember right, he makes about $3m/y in europe now. And it'll probably cost the full MLE to land him in NBA considering Bulls paying $3m/y to sign Nocioni. Should rockets invest such amount money on him? I doubt.

I think that he's better off staying in Europe. He's giving up a lot to play in the NBA, and his game will never fit in here.
